At the moment I don't have storage solution for my ph pen is it ok to use plain tap water to store my pen in?

Storage solution?
I wasn't aware that they have to be stored in a solution. when i finish with mine i just rinse it under the tap, dry it, pop the lid/cap on on and put it back in its case.

Yes that's fine. I read not to use distilled water for storage. Tap water is fine. Buy a designated toothbrush so every couple months you can clean the probe.

The storage solution is really the calibration fluid. Not necessary to store it an. And paronic not to be a jerk but once you let the probe dry out ,your supposed to replace the pen. Gotta keep it moist at all times!

I would highly recommend getting the proper storage solution. If your tap water is high in minerals they will eventually form a film on the electrode and slowly throw it out of calibration. Always keep the electrode moist. If it dries out you need to go through the initial soaking procedure to activate it again, then recalibrate it. Also clean it well before storage. I ruined one by not doing so. The nutrient residue turned to salt on the outside and all around the electrode. I keep a small bottle brush handy, scrub it well, dry it off, then into the cap with the storage solution.

I keep my hi98129 pH probe in an inverted bottle cap full of hanna pH and ORP probe storage solution, and that goes in a zip lock bag in a dark room temp setting. The ziplock bag slows down evaporation of the solution... After I test pH I rinse off the pen, remove the probe and back she goes into storage. Hasn't failed me yet, barring the incident where I broke the removal tool and probe in one go. That was fun...
