So i went in the room and saw one of the babies girls had some noticeable yellow to he newly starting leafs. so i slapped my ph into it and it showed between 7.9-8.5 in 4-5 diffrenet places i probed.

So here is another problem. I'm trying to let them dry out because i belive i might of over watered by a couple spray sessions and the pots are still wet 2 inches deep so i'm affraid to add some ph down and REALLy overwatering em. should i be alright for a few day? i was going to wait until possible tomorrow night to water again.

It has been my experience that those soil ph meters are junk. How old is your sprout? I would just let her dry out a bit and then water with ph balanced water. I've found that checking the run-off is one of the best ways to check your soil ph. Again, this is just from my experience. Good luck.

Thx - yeah i took a couple pics but it seemed to only macro the soil lol then the camera died so I'm saving some juice for tomorrow morning. Then I'll have to use the web cam and do some videos until i get another battery. oh darn lol. how sad will it be to see some videos lol.

Thats what I was thinking. just let it have a dry day then pick up some ph down. I went to the store and got the 5 filtered thing here it does a R/O filter a Carbon Filter and unltraviolet light and a few other things to filter. but i don't have a water ph meter.

Can someon tell me the steps to ph it down. At least how you guys do it.

I can tell you how I prepare my water but there might be a better way.

Here are the items that I use.

3x 5 litre bottles
Led ph meter
Ph+ & ph - buffers
Long pipette 20ml

I use 3x 5 litre bottles. One for ph+, one for ph- and one for the water I use for my plants. I fill all three with about 3-4 litres.

I find it easier to use 5 litre bottles as the ph+&- buffers I have are highly concentrated. just a couple of drops will change the ph drastically

In the first bottle (Ph+) I have a solution that measures around ph9.
In the second bottle (Ph-) I have a solution that measures around ph3.
I measure the ph of the third bottle and adjust by adding a few squirts with the pipette

Once I'm happy with the ph of my water I drop an air-stone into it and bubble it for a day. I re-check the ph before I use the water

Hope this helps

Welcome to AFN Gage.

Your gonna want to throw that soil ph meter about as fas away as you can throw it. zx12r is absolutely correct. Don't go by what you saw as a reading. Most drinking water is ph'ed at 7.5 That's what people need. So if your watering w/drinking water, the soil may be a bit high. Try using a quality distilled water until u get a digital ph meter. Hanna makes a good one. Mine is the pen.
More that likely what your seeing is over watering. Do let the soil dry out for a few days before adding any more.

Whats a cheap but good one cost. I can't spend alot.l i was thinking of going to get those ph paper strips. those i'm sure are more accurate then that. so what kind of ph tester do i need? Will using distilled water alone bring the ph down? i didn't water at all today and i'm not going to tomorrow either.

Personally, I use a cheap Milwaukee pen. The only issue I have with it is the first couple days to week, it needs to be calibrated often. After that time, the pen gets stable readings with the calibration solution. I think it might have something to do with whatever comes shipped on the probe (buffer or whatever). But after that 'break in' period, its pretty reliable. I store mine in a small coffee cup with tap water to keep the probe moist.

You can probably do better with a more expensive one, but it works for me. I actually bought a second one after I dropped mine in water. Doh! But, I took the top off the pen, dryed it out best I could with q-tips and put it in my tent exhaust to get it to air dry. It's just now starting to get a stable calibration, so I'll probably use the one coming as a backup. Good luck.

I have a Milwaukee that I got at the local hydro shop for $30. Check out ebay, you can get them pretty cheap on their.
