First of all, I'm the Dummy I wrote this for. I originally posted it on another site, based on my own experiences of trying to wire a stealth can with PC Fans.

I am electricity phobic, don't get amps, volts, conversions and the like. So after reading many threads on how to adapt PC fans to mains I was just confused, molex, pins, paperclips, mobile chargers, fire risk... didn't seem rock- solid safe or simple enough for me.

So here's my guide:

If it doesn't work, you can just reverse the direction to 2 pins go into the adaptor. Nothing bad will happen if you do this.

I hope it helps someone else!

Hi needs must,

Can you wire two or more pc fans to one adaptor or do they all have to be on seperate adaptors, also is there anyway of controlling the speed of the pc fans.

Thanks

M K: someone mentioned no luck with more than two fans, but afaik you ought to be fine as long as the amperage sums as less than the supply (the pc fans probably say how many amps they use right on them)

Oh I see so would that mean if I had a 12v adaptor the 2 pc fans output must not exceed that of the 12v. But would that mean that as a result of doing this the pc fans will run slower. Or will they run at the same speed. Also is there any way I could control the speed of the fans/fan.

Not even that sure what im saying makes sense or is right as im not that good with electrics.. But I do no how to wire up one fan to an adaptor.

local hard were store dimmer switch

Curious about the DIY, but not seeing any pictures on this side.

local hard were store dimmer switch

Ok i searched for dimmer switch on google, i have seen these before but will that really control the fan speed and would it control two fans at the same time, well i guess i will only find out if i try it for myself.

thanks for your help.

I have run 3 x 120mm pc fans each off 12v supplies used for routers and network switches
If wired in parrallel they run fine, adding more they run slower eventually

Just wanted to add that radioshack sells AC/dc converters with adjustable wattage. Get one with enough amps and you can power as many as you want at whatever speed. I just went through it, 30 bucks for the right one was much easier than trying to find the right cell charger.

If you look on the internet you can find power supplies for external ide or sata connectors for about 10 bucks. They have the proper connection to tie right into PC fans with no mods or rewiring and can run many fans at once. Those are what I use.
