Yes, I realize this is an aged post.....but wanted to provide a heads up to folks trying the neem solution----please do NOT use Dawn !
It can very easily fry plants. Use a natural soap like Bastille, or cheap crap from dollar store (that contains zero bleach or anti bacterial). I screwed my first harvest doing that. Still IN first harvest......just discovered one of my 9 autos teaming w/ white fly maggots.
I cut off all fan (and sugar unfortunately) with these little bastards on them. Luckily they haven't made it into the buds yet. Problem is I have 2 weeks left, just trimmed a bundle of nice leaves......I still have enough left on, I think, to complete harvest, but......very painful experience from.
I have found that a DRY q-tip and a DRY paper towel lets me examine and crush those I find sneaking close to buds. I don't want to spray them since I'm so very close to harvest......it takes a lot of time picking each off, but the numbers have declined substantially doing so. I also have yellow sticky tape up in their caged area (also a half piece I've stuck in the soil at base of plant). Fingers crossed !
Why I say DRY is that the wet q-tips can't grab the bug as easy......
Lord knows this first harvest has been beyond hard......I've battled every pest mold & fungus there is out there thus far. Good advice I have for other newbs like me?
Have EVERYTHING on hand at the ready......be PROACTIVE........treating before you have the issue is so much easier than after. Good luck fellow growers. We are learning no matter what happens with our curing jars ----if they're empty? ah well......they'll be full eventually!
