I'm new to growing and LED's.
Ive been seeing many comments about "old style" Mars Hydro LED's and I;m wondering if this is it? http://www.ebay.com/itm/300W-LED-Gr...365?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27f55dc385
Why is this so favored?
What is the difference between the stated 399 watts and the170-180 true watts?
Can this light really cover veg and flower?
Sorry for all the questions I'm just trying to learn........

I believe the 300w is the max but it only runs at about half that. I think pretty much all leds are like that. The real shit ones run at even lower than 50%.

It's favored because it works which also kinda answers your other questions too lol. A lot of people here use them. It was my first light and 2 grows later I bought another one. Though I did just have one break so hopefully they handle the warranty well. So far so good, mailed me a part that is supposed to fix the problem.

Yes that's it but buy it directly from Tina the MarsHydro rep here on site...
purchasing from ebay diminishes the warranty from 3 years to 1 year IIRC.

And they are really nice to deal with from what I see.

It's favored for value and proficiency. It's not the best light out there but it
grows plants just fine and is a great value. I think the spectrum isn't as
"fine-tuned" on the old ones. One of My MarsHydro UFO's is the same old
spectrum and it worked fine for me.

RE: Wattage - so potential output as determined by the number and wattage
of LED units is what all sellers state for the model. (Example: 96X units at 3W apiece
equates to a 288W Light)The lights are actually under-driven to increase longevity
since they are expected to be on so long for such extended periods. So the actual
draw for the 300W, for instance, is around 180W. That's the true draw at the outlet,
the electricity you're paying for. :)

Full Spectrum lights do a good job of handling veg and bloom. Newer models, it
seems, have switched up spectrum allotment a little in including more greens and
blues and less reds...but like I said, they still work well.

It is a good "getting your feet wet" light because it's inexpensive and will
yield acceptable to above average results.

Oh...the link to the MarsHydro rep's thread...

Ahhhh, forgot about that...they may have a post minimum to get in there. I'm sure it's really low.

Just go fart around in chat a bit and you'll be in there. :)

I bought the very same LED from that same listing. Only difference between it and from their website is from eBay they only have a 1 yr warranty vs 3 yr. Really didn't bother me.

I have 2 and they do fine for the 4 plants I try to grow.

I have 2 so if I need to I can take one and put it in my second grow room if need be. You are right though, if I had only one room then a larger LED would be fine.
