Hey dudes and dudettes
I would like to start this off by thanking Tony and Dutch Passion for the seeds they so generously sent me. My only hope is to do justice by your genetics! Both Ortega and Night Queen are Dutch Passion’s highest CBD producers, so naturally a great choice for my projects… Photoperiod, not auto.
I am not an experienced grower by any means. Got into growing primarily because of the recent diagnose of a very rare autoimmune disease my Dad developed. Its called Myasthenia Gravis, affecting the acetylcholine receptors in the post synaptic membrane of muscles terminals… put plainly, his body is loosing the ability to control his muscles, voluntary skeletal and visceral, shutting down over time in a slow and horribly debilitating progression, even degrading for the person (dependance, speech, sphincter control, feeding, etc), resulting in a slow death, usually asphyxiation or from a bad fall… Fun isn’t it?
Apparently, cannabis is super great for this neurotransmitter! As in laboratory rat reversal of condition and all… High CBD ensures a better overall orchestration of the endocannabinoid system. No other medicine is known to even scratch the surface. So it’s my mission to learn the RSO/CCO method to make oil for my Dad, tinctures for a dear friend’s father’s skin condition, uncle with rheumatoid arthritis... and do my best to safely help others who might cross my path. And if all goes well, a bit of smoke for myself too – got a bit of an insomnia issue, so lets see how the Ortega lives to its expectations …
Conventional medicine gave him an extremely high dose of cortisone. It did stall the symptoms for a while, it did stunt the progression, but not very much, its coming back and I fear with double the strength. Side effects of cortisone? A perfect recipe for a heart attack or a stroke for a 73 year old nutter… Hypertension, significant weight gain but with significant muscle loss, diabetes, cataracts and glaucoma (!!!), depression, extreme mood swings and anxiety, decalcification… he had 100% perfect health except a few muscle symptoms, and cortisone f*cked him much much more, and quicker (6 months!). Can you believe this shit? So f*ck you "modern medicine", I'm taking matters in my own hands.
(Sorry, don't mean to be rude, but its my Dad I'm talking about here, and "modern medicine" a.k.a. doctors, do what they can. Its the pharma industry we should insulting)
I’d like to invite everyone to jump in for the ride. I’ve only done 1 grow so far, from clones, 600w HPS and Atami + Kilomix, no pH / EC meter, over thinking, under watering and over ferting! Still managed 226g from 7 battered girls. I’d appreciate all the input I can get.
I confess I am a bit nervous, more so than my first grow! Not because of stealth any more, but ‘cos I’ll be using coco which is considerably less forgiving that soil. I also hope the LEDs live up to expectation, and are enough for 5 plants.
After reading dozens of grow diaries, I decided to go “all-in” in terms of indoor plant growth tech. Here is my new setup, greatly influenced by Seymour’s diaries, but adapted for my lifestyle. Actually, everything is new in this setup, except for the tent itself, the CF and the extraction fan
So here’s the setup I’ve concocting;
Tent – 65cm x 165cm x 180cm
Lights – Total 350w –
2x 240w Blackstars with 6 bands (Blue, Reds, IR and UV): Actual Power Draw 120w each. Direct from China. 3w chips by Bridgelux and Epistar.
1x 125w CFL 6400ºK (later switch in flowering) - Actual power draw 100w, which was a surprise...
Hanna GrowCheck pH meter (don’t like this model), Adwa EC/ppm, Adwa pH next month.
5x 10L Airpots
Canna Coco Professional Plus
Canna Coco A&B
Canna Rhizotonic
Canna Cannazyme
Canna BioBoost
Canna PK 13/14
Sensi CalMag Veg
Sensi CalMag Bloom
Superior Potash (don’t have it right now, will buy later)
Growth Technology Liquid Silicon (also for pH Up)
Growth Technology pH Down
Water Res with 6L/h air pump to O2 the water. Manual watering.
At least I now get to do pink pictures too!!
Lets get crackin’ by cracking some seeds!
2x Dutch Passion’s Ortega Indica
2x Dutch Passion’s Night Queen
1x Sensi Seeds Purple Haze (traded a bean, wanted a sativa dominant to learn & compare)
After 6 hours, they all sank to the bottom of the glass with a small tap of a finger. 6 hours later they cracked, except for the Purple Haze. All went
into soaked paper towel (water pH 5.8 with a pinch of rhizotonic), and 1 day later…
Night Queen
Ortega
Purple Haze
Pre-soaked Root Riot cubes with half dosage of rhizotonic (2ml/L), and off they went…
Average temp is 21-24ºC, RH around 70%
They slept their first night in their new home! Went to check on them, and damn, the bloody cubes were considerably dry. Just soaked the cubes again, light will be back on in an hour (14h), so I will definitely have to check on them constantly. I had no idea a 125w CFL made “so much” heat (about +4º C to ambient) - an added bonus as temps are going down...
So for now, it’s the waiting game… how long do you thing until they pop-out? Next watering I'll be adding Formulex to the mix.
Man, I was seriously bit by the grow bug…
