Hello there people, I'm just about to begin my first indoor grow!

I was inspired to start growing after I started smoking weed about a year and a half ago. I thought "why not grow your own and save some money?" :]

I've been inspired by SeymourBuds' grows with AutoFlowering strains and seeing as I'm a novice, I thought I'd go the AF route myself. I'm starting with Think Different, which seems to be getting very popular. If I can grow even a third as well as Seymour has, I'll be really happy :]

So that's about me. I'm glad to be here and hopefully I'll be able to show you all my progress in the form of a grow diary. With your expert help, I think it should all go quite well.

Welcome to afn, just let us know when your ready to start and we'll be ready to help.

Thanks :] I've ordered my tent, extraction/carbon filter combo, in-tent clip on fan and seeds, but I'm stuck at the lighting.

I was going to go with a 250W HPS light, dual spectrum. I'm not sure if I should up the wattage though, what do you guys think? Money is not an issue, I want the best grow possible :]

How big is your tent? That will determine the optimal lighting wattage. With a lot of tents that I have come across, 600W provide ample lumens per square foot. A 250 would be underpowered for even a 4x4 tent

24"x24"x64". I've been advised that a 250W is my best option :]

Also, a little question regarding extraction and carbon filters. Would I be right in assuming that the carbon filter neutralizes the smell, then the fan blows out the hot air through an extraction port? I've only got a small cupboard to grow in, so I don't want consistent hot air being cycled in and out.

the usual way things are set up for bestresults are a passive intake (basically just a hole that fresh air can be drawn in from (somewhere cool if possible)), and an exhaust where hot air is blown out of the grow area, optimally pulling the air through the carbon filter.

so you would hang the carbon filter and extractor in the roof of the tent and ducting leading out of the tent. i think the tent you have is a smaller version of mine and it has an exhaust on the roof and many intakes around the floor so id go...

carbon filter-->extractor sucking through the filter-->ducting-->and out of the tent.

or if you have a cool tube or other cooled hood that would fit int here somewhere but i think i saw what youre getting.
you need to match the cfm of the fan to the carbon filter otherwise it might be ineffective at cooling and removing smells due to wrong pressure too strong etc.

its best to have your intake down low as the air drawn in will be cooler, and your carbon filter up high so it is sucking out the hottest air and removing it rather than just taking the cool lower air.

hot air should preferably be vented outside or atleast outside the grow area.

250 will do it. I recommend buying a digital switchable ballast if money is not an issue. Added versatility of running HPS or MH
