Hi guys,
Complete nooby here :)

ive just started my first stealth set up in a small 2x2x3 box.

currently running a 50w led over a 5 day old seedling which seems to be doing well currently with a couple sets of single fingered leaves.

im looking to change the light to a mars 300 as I’m doubting the 50w will be good enough to run for the full life cycle.

my question is: when do you guys recommend that the light is switched to the 300? As I don’t want to be harming the delicate seedling....

thanks in advance :)

It’ll need to be 2ft to 3ft above the plant at this stage. You don’t have much height available now, and as your plant grows upward you’re going to have even less space to hang a light, control the heat from it etc. In veg (maybe week 3 onward) you’d be able to lower the light to 2ft, and in flower maybe 12 -18 inches above. But by that stage the plants could be 30in high! So I’m struggling to see how you could do this with your small box. I’m sure there’s a way to grow in such a low height space, hopefully someone will have a better idea than me

120 watts of good led will be enough for that space id look at getting a mars sp 150 if you can squeeze it in your space

Thanks for the input @Sleeper143 @Trichome farmer

I did think that the size of the box was going to be a bit of a issue....
Plan was to lst as well as I could and drag the use of the box out as long as possible.
I will be able to move to a larger space but not for another month or so yet unfortunately.....

For the time being (the next month or so) in my current box do you reckon the 50w will be ok to bring her along? Then when I can move to a bigger space a can run a larger fitting like a 300....

If so, is there a recommended height to be running the 50w above? Currently about 12-15 inch above seedling and doesn’t seem to be light stressed or stretching at the moment.

sorry if I’m coming across like a idiot but I’m learning all the time

thanks

You’re not coming across as an idiot, we all started somewhere. You only learn by asking and there are lots of really helpful people on here. I’m only on my 4th grow, and I was lucky enough to start with ‘proper’ small tent/fans/etc so I’ve never experienced a stealth grow like yours, so I really can’t give you the correct advice. But theres bound to be people here who have.
As for how close you can out your 50w light - as close as you can without stressing your plant. If she’s happy now and showing no signs of heat/light stress, then lower it a little, say an inch, day by day to see if she reacts. If you see any signs of stress then bump back up the height

A small quantum board might do it...?

Thanks @Sleeper143, Yh I’ve been hanging about on the forum prior to my first post and it does seem to be a very helpful group of people :)

so, it would be alright to keep the 50w as close as possible to the plant (without causing stress) and move it up in the box as the plant grows.... and then I should be able to move her In around a month to where I shouldn’t have as much as a issue with height (about 5.5ft) then I will be able to run a higher wattage light?

keep it as is till you get your new space then id advise looking at the mars ts range or sp range of lights i wouldn't recommend any of there other models :goodluck:

Thanks @Trichome farmer.
Yep, going to keep going day by day for the moment and Hopefully she will stay as happy as she is now.
Hoping she will pack on some growth under the 50 for the next month or so then I’ll switch it up to the new space :)

A "300 watt" LED likely will put out too much heat in a 2 x 2 x 3 ft. tent, whether that is actual draw or more likely the claimed watts for now what is increasingly considered a relatively inefficient legacy technology, with COBs and QBs seemingly now having pulled ahead of classic-type LEDs.

If not now, if only to increase efficiency, reduce heat, consider using 1 or maybe even 2 AutoCOBs, other COBs and/or quantum broads.

In terms of using what you currently have, go with the most light that doesn't present problems.
