I'm going to be starting my next grow in 4-6 weeks. I have my re-amended soil in a big plastic tub out in the garage with a lid on it.
I already know my soil has fungus gnats. My question is will nematodes work if I pre-treat the soil in the tub with nematodes while keeping a lid on the container.
I figure if the dam gnats arent dying in a sealed container in the dark, maybe the nematodes wont die either?
I know nematodes are light sensitive, but not sure if they will work/survive in a sealed container.

I have used nematodes and BTi and there is no comparison, go with BTi . My favorite is mosquito bits.

Been using mosquito bits for every grow. I just never have managed to truly wipe the little buggers out. Was looking to try something different.

I was able to end my fungus gnat issues with the mosquito bits, it did take three applications a week apart to accomplish it along with a bunch of those yellow bug traps to get the adults. I have used several different nematode products along with the yellow traps and I didn't see much of a reduction.

It shouldn't hurt the nematodes at all to have them in the tub of soil before you plant anything. You would probably need to water the tub to hatch the eggs and get the larvae going. Neither product addresses the eggs or adults.

I use both nemotodes and BTI. The key with nemotodes is to re-apply regularly. I'd add some to your container now, then again in 2 weeks, and every 2 weeks or so as you progress through your grow.

As for whether or not they'll die in the sealed container, really only one way to find out...

I forgot to add that recently when I mix amendments into my soil I started adding 1/4 cup Diatomaceous Earth. Good for the plants and will help control the gnats larvae as well.

They'll be fine as long as the medium remains moist. I do suggest a bi weekly then monthly treatment of nematodes until the issue is eliminated.
