I'm not a breeder, but I have an odd problem trying to sex a plant.
I planted 3 feminized auto flower plants which sprouted on Dec 1.
Two of them were in hydro buckets (auto jack sativa and n. lights indica) and one in soil (w. widow).
The n. lights showed its pistils about 10 days ago, and the w. widow about a day later, but the auto jack has nothing that resembles either pistils or male sacs.
It's so bushy that I have trouble seeing anything without pushing the leaves around to get at the branches, but it definitely has no pistils yet and this is an auto flower that should have showed its sex a week ago.
I am keeping a very close watch on it to determine if it's a male and I have to take it out.
Is there some clear way to sex a plant that I could try?
Could it be a hermie?

It should have shown by now.The only thing I can think of is put it under 12/12 lighting and see if that sets her or him off.

Sadly, I can't as I only have the one space and I don't want to hurt the other 2 female autos by turning the lights off on them just to find out if the autojack is a male.
I figure that it's not dangerous unless its pollen sacs ripen and burst, and I would recognize an emerging pollen sac before that.
It could be a photo period seed that got mixed up when it was packed at the seed store.

Surfer Joe--Could you just switch your lighting to 16/8 for all of the plants. If the Jack is a photo it will start to pre-flower under 16/8. If it is an auto leaning more towards a photo period plant--it ought to start flowering at 16/8.

Your plants are young enough not to be troubled by a light change. In fact, from now on, I am going to go 16/8--all the time.

I have had two just like yours and it would have been wise of me to switch to 16/8. In the end they became so massive I had to chop. There is an article about autos and genetics from F1 to F4 online edition of H. Times. The author gives some stats. per the auto gene.

Good luck. In a day or so you should be able to post photos.

Cheers.

Thanks. I will give it a few more days and see what happens.
I also have the problem of space, and the two hydro plants are really massive little bushes right now with tons of thick leaves, so I am worried that I may not have room for both anyway and it might be a blessing in disguise if one turns out to be male.
