Hi guys. I recently ordered a Secoh JDK air pump with an air output of 32 litres/minute. I received a call from the supplier informing me that the model I purchased will not be available for approximately 6 more months. They did however offer me the JDK 40 instead, with an output of 48 litres/minute.

I have a 200mm airstone to use with it and I'm going to be growing in a 20 liter DWC hydro bubbler bucket. My question is: Is this new pump too powerful, and if not, will I need a different airstone?

A quick answer would be hugely appreciated before my airstone order is processed so I could get it changed :)

my only thought is the bubbles will be larger as they are forced rapidly through the airstone , and larger is not really better in this

and if the air stone gets parcially plugged (being smaller and less area/mass there will be less of an area sufficient to release the air) it will cause the pump to work overtime

just my thoughts , dont take it to the bank

best of luck , peace

Ah okay, thanks man :) I've opted for a 41 litres/minute pump as an alternative.

Hey Billy, I'm still fairly new to the hydro game so somebody more experienced may tell me I'm wrong! But the main thing to watch out for is water dispersion, for example you'll know the pump is too strong if the water starts to evaporate due to the abundance of bubbles. A lot of people use 30lpm pumps with great success as it's double the volume of water in a standard 5gal DWC bucket. That pump is gonna give you 18lpm extra which I think would be okay..the alternative I can think of is pumps like that or even the 30lpm have manifolds that come with them, if not you could buy a 3 way manifold as if you were going to supply air to three buckets. Then just leave one tube out of the bucket and the other two in place to potentially give you 32lpm again..this is just a quick theory btw as the air will travel down the smoothest route - hope this helps in some sort of way I know it just me babbling on! :peace:
