first time grower need help with nats not out of control yet but do have sum does any one no i have some stuff called azamax from general hydroponics i have it left over dont know about using it for autos because of their sensetivity if anyone knows ne thing to help please by the way plants are 19 days old so far so good bushy and green

Sticky paper works real well with gnats. You can usually find some at the grocery or hardware store. Just hang a strip or two and in a few days they will be all stuck to it. Gnats are often in the soil. Miracle Grow soils are notorious for having them. They like damp conditions so make sure you're not over watering and have good air circulation.

Also same thing but fly sticky paper that you roll out the little tube works well. Look for it in the pest/mouse traps/ bug spray aisle.

Since you already have the AzaMax, use it. It's good stuff... safe... effective... gentle... it's almost like the plants like it when you have to use it as a foliar (not for gnats).

I always keep sticky paper in the the grow area... whether I have a gnat problem, or not. I've not had an issue yet. My good friend uses MG, and he just puts about a 1/2 inch thick layer of play sand (play sand is sterilized) on the top of his soil mix, in the pots. Since he's been doing that, no gnat issues. He always had them before.

They like damp conditions so make sure you're not over watering and have good air circulation.

won't the layer of sand keep moisture trapped in the dirt? Is it good for the plant to have a layer of sand for the entire life cycle?
thanks

If you check the date of my previous post, you'll see it was made over a year ago... So, after another year of experience, I have seen the sand continue to be completely effective and, no, the layer of sand does not form that type barrier, in my experience... :peace:

I had a gnat problem awhile back. After trapping all the adults treating the soil etc. they would keep returning. Another member suggested mosquito dunks for your soil so i take no credit for the genius idea (sorry cant remember who but thanks). I crumbled (wear gloves) 1/4 of the round dunk in a gallon of water and have never seen another gnat. I do this for the first few weeks of a grow and it works great! Just water your plants with it in the mix for a couple of weeks then on all your future grown and your problem will be solved:toke::peace:
