Things Needed:
A temperature controlled heating surface: For my preferred method a toaster oven.
A shoe box.
A thermometer * not necessary * but handy for one step
A bud.

*WARNING* - this is only to quickly sample your bud for it's relative potency and not to gauge flavor and smoke profile. It's best to always use a slow dry and cure process for the best results.

First get a shoebox. * The shoebox will allow slow dry air and mild humidification for a quick but slightly slower and more even drying of your bud. If your shoebox does not have side holes add two of them about 1/2 inch in diameter. The shoebox will buffer and disperse the heat more evenly and prevent scorching, as you want the temperature to be as close to 147 degrees ( the temperature at which THC begins to vaporize) as possible.

Preheat the toaster oven, griddle, or other comparable surface to 155-160 degrees Fahrenheit. :hot:* the shoebox will not exceed 145 degrees if below 160. 155 will keep it at around 140.

Place the shoebox on top of heating surface to preheat.

Collect a bud and trim it down, leave an inch or two of stem. :smokeit:

* if you have a thermometer test the bottom surface of the shoebox once the heating surface has preheated to 155-160 (may be indicated by an audible ding or light on your device ) ( some shoeboxes are thicker or thinner than others, therefore your box may or may not be closer to 147 )

Place your bud in the bottom of the box.

Turn the bud once every hour a quarter turn.

That's it! After 6-12 hours gently feel your bud for dryness and test the stem by cracking it. If it snaps, smoke it, if not continue until done. The 6 hour gap in time is dependent on the size and quality of your bud. :smoke:

Cheers, feel free to leave comments and YOUR preferred method of quick drying!

When I want a sample I just clip a bud off and toss it in the vape. Problem solved.
Failing that, clip a bud and hang it in front of your exhaust outtake. Takes about a day/day and a half to dry. IMHO putting your bud through a high temp quick dry like the one you described would damage it and warp the results. It may not, but all the evidence I've seen so far says that's a bad idea. I feel the same way about drying that I do about growing, you can't make it go faster and if you try you're going to have terribly diminished results.

I busted my bulb (vape) so I was testing another method, but yah, never thought about putting it through the exhaust. Thanks for that suggestion Mr. Piggy. I got high from my borrowed and improved upon method, but yours sounds better, thanks. :D

Dang kern, that sounds like a really, really fast method lol. How does it smoke after such really quick drying?

good yea no harshness or anything, i only put tiny popcorn buds and then put a newspaper on top if them and have a game or two of battlefield and then they're pretty dry :D they aren't bone dry like, enough to smoke though

Guess I'm just one of the ones who never tries a bud before its time...when I pop a seed, I always add a month to the growing time for a sample run but then wait for things to cure before we REALLY test........I use a very slow dry and precise cure method to insure each and every bud will be it's best....since I vape 98% of the time, it's kinda important to taste good......
That being said, I do have friends who always quick dry everything cause they never have weed around them that has any age to it.......

By no means, take this post as gospel or anything, it is just a suggestion on a method to quick-dry a bud, in hindsight, I cannot use Mr. Piggy's method for quick sampling as I have no vape, and my exhaust outtake is on the exterior of my home, so that's no good either. This is just an alternative when you are like me and have no other options. I can say I have tried the following methods however:
The oven drying method
The Microwave method
The clothes dryer method

the shoebox/toaster oven method has given me superior results to those methods listed. Like I said, you have waited this long and should always properly cure, but this is just for those who really want to try or sample the high. You can even slow it down and decrease the temperature for an even more even quick dry. I wish I could rename the topic of this thread to something like the last-ditch method for a decent quick dry. :peace:

I am so just the opposite. I don't go by getting in with a microscope and checking the colour of the trichs or going by the bud colour. or wait till the fan leaves start turning yellow. That is if I even left them on. I know I could be missing on a few grams of extra bud weight. When I grow a new one I grab a bud and heave it in the food dehydrator overnight and smoke it. then 3 days later I grab another bud and try it again. I smoke test the stuff to find out when I like it best.
