Spreading the Canna Love!
On the one year (plus a couple of weeks) anniversary of joining AFN I decided to start a journal for my perpetual setup. I am about finished with grow #4. I planted my first seeds this season on August 27th.
Current Equipment:
My plan is/was to plant two seeds every 35 - 40 days, figuring that I would eventually be harvesting every 35 days assuming an average grow cycle of 70 days. I start the seeds in the "nursery" which is a cabinet outfitted with CFL's.
Once the seedlings are between 10 days to 18 days old, they move into the tent. At day 35, I plant two more seeds and keep the cycle going.
This has worked pretty well so far. I have harvested 11+ ounces in a little more than five months. There are challenges, however. Such as when you need to give the plants that are finishing more time - and you have two plants in veg needing the extra light - and two in the nursery, ready for the tent where there is no room. Makes you realize how much you could do with more space!
Here are some photos of the set-up. These are two indicas finishing up and two Think Differents in veg.
This worked out really well since the two indicas were really small and the Think Different were young/small.
The next photo shows the two Think Differents at about day 40, along with two HBSS at about day 18.
I forgot how big the HBSS gets… Now I have tent issues because the HBSS are getting huge but I need the light/space to finish the Think Differents. I will post pictures tomorrow of the tent size issues.
Which leads to another potential issue. You might have to sacrifice yield to keep on schedule. Plants might need to be kept smaller or finish a little early to keep things running smooth. I've found that I don't mind giving up a little yield to have a nice rotation going but if you don’t have a lots of space/light and you want a steady flow...give up the dream of a lb per plant and enjoy the ride!
Planning is key! I like sativas for 3/4 of my usage and indicas for 1/4 so I plant accordingly. My entire growing season (10 months) is plotted on an online calendar. Each grow is numbered. This makes it easy for me to keep up with the feeding/lighting schedule. I know 10 months in advance (within a week or so) which strains I will plant and harvest.
I am a hobbyist grower with a busy life. There are times when I have to be away for a few days and the plants will be on their own. I know I stress my plants and sacrifice yield when this happens - but it is what it is.
For the first time in my life I have a nice little reserve of premium herb! I’ve been able to stop using otc headache and sleep aids. I’ve gotten my 80 year old mother off of narcotic sleeping pills. I am making RSO for a friend with cancer. I am able to share with friends. All good!
I learned most everything here at AFN. Thanks to all the good people here! I hope this info helps someone as well.
I will keep updating this thread, as well as strain specific journals. Any input, advice or suggestions is always welcome!
Peace & Love!
