AutoTendencies
Lost in Limbo (for real)
This is my second attempt at autos in about 4 years. I have experience in photo-period plants, and am using Bot. CocoGro as my soiless mix. During the veg cycle- A.N. Non-PH perfect jungle juice A+B, along with ZHO, B-1, and Cal-Mag. As for flowering, A.N. Mother Earth Bloom Super Tea, with a 50.30 PK booster along with A.N. Over-drive. I know that a few of you are thinking that A.N is a waste of money yada yada yada, but I had it and have used it with success. However I wouldn't use any of their nutes without additives IMO. As for Over-drive being "snake-oil"(as my friend believes) I love it! I am about to use Clearex on one of the AK-49's next week.
I've followed many of yous guys and gals forum post for valuable information as a ghost, and figured It's time I contribute. I have tested a few different controversial subjects using a control for each test.
First and foremost, I never seen any difference between pre-rinsing my coco, and not doing so. Perhaps some companies differ, however CocoGro seems A-1 for photos-and autos.
Second, I learned that its really hard to catch up on needed calcium through the root zone. Especially during earlier life, foliar spraying Cal-Mag at .5ml per 32oz Spray bottle worked wonders. Normally with photos I use 3ml cal-mg per gallon. With the autos, 4ml was about perfect. The Ak-49's are cal-mag whores! They get nitrogen curl before you'll give the necessary dosage of cal-mag. Don't even try.
Third, Most of the bean manufacturers are selling way unstable genetics. So don't expect the 60 day recommendation to be even close to true. I took about a month and a half for all mine to show pistils. Also they aren't always uniform in growth.
Fourth, comes Topping or Fimming. Some take it, some hate it. The Ak-49 took it like a champ, however the Auto Blue-Domina didn't appreciate it at all.
Fifth, Light intensity. OK sure. They grow under any kind of light. However, some are more sensitive that others. I noticed that the Auto-Blue Domina grew wonderfully under cfl during its early life. After a few weeks, I moved her under a T5HO, and she grew very slowly and I even thought about just whackin' that hoe. But instead I put her back under the cfl for about 2 more weeks, then back to the T5 and she took off!
I do prefer l.e.d.'s all the way, however I don't use them exclusively because they are expensive. I have a 2Fast 2Vast under t5 most of the 20 hrs, however she does get moved under HPS when the photo light comes on. I did this because I have a 3 foot monster just showing me her little cootchie hairs(no offense to ladies reading, it's what I call 'em). Still the 2Fast 2Vast under the led trumps it. Another 2Fast 2Vast is about 4 ft barely showing, and i just threw her in with the 12/12 cycle with a Grape Ape.
For those who are interested in 2Vast 2 Vast, just know that the proper light cycle according to manufacturer is 48/24. Anyone else ever heard or used this cycle with success? I ran 'em 20/4.
Sixth, its waaay better to ration nutes when autos are entering the flowering cycle. I tried to push a few, and the results were slower bloom. I found that I had more success using 5ml to 6ml then to 7ml, instead of 6ml to 7ml to 8ml. It seems that even though the ladies looked a lil deficient, they tended to bloom faster.
All in all, I am sure that I will do AK-49 and S.A.D.A. again. The three Ak-49s all have similar fruity smells(pine-apple,orange, citrus like) and are covered in crystals. One of the S.A.D.A.'s smell like strawberry star-burst. Yummy, cant wait for that one! I am still waiting on my gear from Seedsman (all Mephisto!). The first order disappeared. It's been over 60 days, and supposedly they sent another one. I'm in a med state anyway, not that big of an infraction in regards to state law. Sorry for the rant, just trying to "pay it forward" with information in hopes to assist anyone in their endeavors. Feedback and tips are greatly welcomed, as we all have a common goal. Good Luck and Peace.
