New Grower Lookin for help setting up another new grow!

Whats up guys? I have a thread/journal about my grow at home, but i was talking to my boy today and he was interested in starting his own grow in his house. He's got a ton of room, he has 2 full rooms to choose from, and about 6ft of vertical space!! We want to start ASAP and were thinking 2 auto's or super autos just to start and he wants my help with it.

So i got a few questions you guys can probably help me with!

He will spend around $150 on the light, so since its a large room and we want to start with 2 plants in 2gallon buckets, i was thinking of ordering him a 250watt HPS & MH light off ebay for around $150, Think that would be our best bet? or would we be better with LED's, cfl's or anything else? I would love to get some links to good light sites too, but if you can't do that its aight.

For seeds I want to use the same site I used last time, worldwide-marijuana-seeeds, should I get from them again or is there a better site for auto seeds?
I have a single feminized onyx seed, and a single La diva automatic (freebie from the seed site). Are either of those good for beginner growers, and do they grow to a good size? I know onyx grows 2-3ft tall, but I know nothing about la diva!

Also, is it necessary for us to make a grow box or grow tent? I was gonna say fuck it and well just use 6inch ducting and a carbon filter, but I don't want his whole house to reak! (even though his mom said this whole thing's cool wit her)

That 250 watt hps should be ok,but if you need to get rid of some of the heat off the light and also the smell you'll need some sort of grow tent or small box.You can than use the ducting ,but you also will need a blower to pull the air out and a nother fan or blower to bring fresh air in.If the heat or smell isn't an issue and you can keep them in a closed room that isn't used you woul'dnt need a tent.I dont know much about thos varieties but two to three feet is avg.Google them for more info or im sure someone will know those varities and help you out later this morning.Oh bye the way you might be able to have a couple more plants with that light if you have any more seed. Hope you have a good grow.

I would also suggest partitioning off a small section of that room or buying a tent. Paint everything on the inside white or line it with reflective mylar. That will help to contain the light and redirect it toward the plants. A 250 watt HPS is fine and the heat from them isn't too bad, a 4" exhaust fan and carbon filter would be big enough for a light that size. Be cautious with those cheap eBay lights. It's probably a magnetic ballast and a lower quality bulb. Personally I prefer LEDs but they are more expensive. A Blackstar 240 watt would be great for a small grow, but they are about $300. Also, an 8 bulb Quantum Bad Boy T5 fluorescent would work great in there. Again more expensive, around $250 for the fixture and bulbs.

As to those strains, I've not grown the La Diva but have grown Onyx. It's a pretty easy strain for a new grower to start with. You may also want to look at Herbies for your seeds.

Ok good info, i talked to him today and he told me he has no spending limit, but he did mention that he was looking for ones around and under $300... Were gonna do a rubbermaid container grow, with 2 of the largest containers we can find, well stack them and cut the top and bottom. He wants to do 2 plants, probably onyx and something around the same size. Any ideas for what light or lights he should get? Since its a container, heats an issue, so i was thinking along the lines of led's, a CFL, or a few big T5HO's. Let me know of what would be the best for his situation! Were pretty much partners in the grow but it will be funded by him and at his house. For air circulation and exhaust we were gonna do 4 120mm fans, 2 blowing in and 2 out. Any input is very helpful!
