I currently have too many plants for the amount of lights I have ... I have 2 very large adults that are over 12 weeks yet still putting out new pistils and the trichs are only showing minimal ambering ... general plant health would indicate another week or two til harvest also.

I moved the large 2 adults into the tub/shower w/ a 120 watt UFO for the last days of their life and put the 4 - 3 week old plants under the better light in my normal grow space ...

My question is ... Once the buds have swelled up big and I'm not trying to add bulk ... will transferring the plant to a less intense light for a week or two hurt the yield ... I just harvested a Sugar Mango Ryder that I did this to ... didn't see any shrinkage and may have seen some added trichs .... but I'm not sure ...

reasoning .... sometimes the plants look like they need a rest and are tired of being blasted w/ a lot of light ... just wondering if the plant canabalizes it's buds when the light is reduced ...

All input will be considered and appreciated ... :tiphat:

I'd really like to get some input on the highlighted question above ... Thanks ... :Sharing One:

Interesting question chester, i've only started my grow and have no first hand experience so feel free to ignore. But since it didn't do any harm to your sugar mango ryder i'm sure it'll be fine again this time. From what i've read it sounds like the plant will do anything to produce the best bud it can, so canabalizing itself sounds like it goes against its nature. Just my guess though, i'm sure there are loads of growers here with the same space issues as you that will have a take on it :peace:

If it were me those 2 large plants would be hanging up to dry. Just saying . :brow:

I don't think it will affect your yield too much, but it will just a bit.

I grew three plants all without any direct light at all for thier whole lives, and I still got 2.5 ounces out of three plants total.

Remember though, they were Photo's not auto's. And no direct light from seed to finish.

So, they will grow without light, but with three plants, I shooulda had about 4 ounces each.

Thanks for the input y'all ... I would have chopped her instead of moving to the lower intensity light but her pistils are not browning up as expected and in person she shows a lot more green than her photo ... the SMR that I harvested last week has been dried to 62%rh and has been broken down into buds and is in the jars doing it's breathing exercises ... the buds came out airier than expected ... I don't mind airy buds but they were hard when I harvested so I'm wondering if a week of lower intensity light caused them to be airy somehow ...

My theory behind the move was that the buds were swollen to the point that the branches were having a hard time holding them up ... it's done growing but it's not ripe yet so instead of 1-3 days of darkness I'd let it spend it's last week in all the correct colors of light needed for flowering, just a lower intensity of them ... mother nature is helping too by providing some colder nights so I may get a little more color change ... I had the two bigguns in w/ the AKRs but the height differences were becoming a problem ... probably harvest the Jock in two days so it will have been under reduced intensity light for 4 days ... the Sugar Mango Ryder that is in the BOM competition is massive and has been under the reduced light for about a week and will be harvested once the trichs have turned sufficiently ... SMRs are a type of weed that ambers based on what I've been told and what I saw w/ the last one ...

Thanks again for the input ... :tiphat:

Give them younguns the good light! At this point, I doubt the switch to a lower power light will hurt them any.
