Question does led /cobs work as well as hps for bud development I am thinking of expanding room however the thought of 2 or more hps lights worry me heat electric etc...
I guess I'm asking have you switched to led and were you happy with the move? I currently have 1 1000w hps/Mh thinking of adding two Cree 2000w led/cod mix from Amazon My mother loves the cheap led I got from Amazon do budduling plants perform as well?
Thanks in advance

I think @Slater has a journal going

I'm using bridgelux EB2 light strips and loving them. Some Malawi x Panama a week into flowering in a 4x4. No shaded areas, deep penetration, and very little heat. I had to add a heater to maintain heat where I like it because it's way less than my 600 watt hps with better coverage and far less energy usage.

You would be better served switching to quantum boards or bridgelux/Samsung strips if you don't mind diy and have the budget.

What size space and budget do you have?

Thanks for the reply. I havent seen the strips like the kind you have there on your tent. More research to do it seems. I have an 8by 12' room 7 ft ceiling I am using only using 8x8 right now. With a vivosun 1000whps/mh dual ballist works well but I want to expand. Was thinking of 2 2000w cob/led combos approx $400ca each. One on each side of 1000w hps in middle. Tour babysitting are veging very nicely have you finished a bud cycle with them? Do they grow dense buds?

I have not finished a cycle with them. If you wanted to fill the whole room you would need 2880 watts. I think HLG 132 quantum boards would be the most cost effective but I also think that for $800 you would get a lot more from them than cobs. The light spread is better. The four packs cost $135 and drivers could be $90-180 it just depends on how you want to lay it out. It would take 10 packs to fill that space and either 5x 600 watt drivers or 10x 320 watt drivers.

If your keep the 1000 watts for your current space then it's less to fill but this all depends on your budget and what you want

Thanks again time for me to learn more about LED setups I guess. I was just considering the all in one set up, not modular I have more to learn. That's the beauty of this hobby it dabs into so many other skill sets plumbing electrical botany carpentry ventilation and design, just so I can smoke clean strong local bud...

I'm honestly in love with the quantum boards and the bridgelux strips but where the strips fail is that they don't come with heat sinks like t the quantum boards. I personally would probably make several 4x4 builds at 480 watts unless I intended to use c02 but if you strictly wanted to build for a 8x8 with the strips you could do 4 of them in that space at 1920 watts but it would be around $1700-1800.

Quantum boards don't offer the coverage I want exactly like strips do but I think they are an excellent choice that are slightly cheaper. Check the quantum board thread

Hey @Gloose and welcome to AFN :welcome:

LED's to replace HPS you say...mmmmmm....best move you could ever make in my opinion, the time is right to say good bye to HPS... but that really depend on where your going to put your money... first thing I would say your not going to find the right kind of LED on amazon, just Chinese branded units that will grow weed, maybe even be on par with your HPS but they are not the best by a long shot. And when they say it 2000w it not, more likely 600w if your lucky... you are right you need to do your research... here follow this link https://www.autoflower.org/threads/looking-to-get-into-leds-watch-this-before-you-buy.66830/ to a thread I have written for the newbie wanting to get into LED's, follow the links, watch the GRowmau5 vids over and over (don't worry if it flies over the head, it will sink in). I have listed a few company's you need to pay attention too and when you think your ready get a journal going tag me and we shall get you over to the LED side.

In the mean time why don't you pop on over to introduction and say Hi, best way to meet everyone on AFN and you can then give the low down on your set up and how long you been in the game - https://www.autoflower.org/forums/live-introductions.35/
