Anyone have any knowledge on how long it's safe to leave the water/food mix sitting out? does having an air stone in it help prolong it? If I have a watering can sitting in my apt for 3 days is it still safe to use it on my plants even though there is some weird looking stuff in the water?

I don't want to ruin my plants with something that has grown in my water that i've been leaving out for days at a time. I also don't want to have to mix a new batch every other day if I can avoid it. ;(

Air stone will keep it good. I wouldn't leave nutrients in water for more than a couple of days.

Oh yeah, using an air stone will most likely raise the pH, just a heads up.

An Air stone may raise the PH, a small water pump will circulate the nutrients and the movement of the surface of the water will also provide some oxygenation.

Chemical ferts that have been mixed with water, should be ok up to a week, but read advice on the nutrients bottles.

Organic fert that have been mixed with water should be ok for 3 day, again read directions on the bottles.

These are only rules of thumb, read the instructions with your ferts they should give clear advice how long you can keep ready mixed ferts for.

Does the evaporation of chlorine etc raise the ph of water?. Im using filtered tap water left at least 24 hours. My water is ph 7.2 straight from the tap, but i checked one of my buckets that i had in my tent under 600w hps to warm it up a little and the ph was 8.4
The second bucket i left outside the tent was still around 7.2

I'm not sure about the chlorine evaporating, I thought it might be as it becomes less oxygenated the pH raises. My rainwater is 6.5 from the barrel, after 12hrs bubble it's 7.2/7.3.

Yea that probably makes more sense dazed

My ph defiantly rises the longer I let it sit out my tap its 7.4 after 24 hr it's still 7.4 but if I leave it 48hr it goes up to 7.8 iv also read about water temps affecting ph I tend to heat my water up in my kettle not sure if that's the right thing to do but it's quick

Since I was asking myself about that not long ago, I had sent question to Advanced Nutr. support:

Q.: What is minimal recommended sitting time after putting nutrients into water and how long is this mix usefull. Is there any difference if water with mixed nutrients sits open or sealed?
A: There is no minimum time required to allow the solution to sit before feeding the plants; the mixture will stay stable after mixing for a few days, at least a week, keep covered and away from heat and light. Grower Support

Maybe regular desinfecting of your bottles or whatever you use would help against weird looking stuff. Have you tried that? H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) is very good, you do not need more than 3% mixture with water.

Nice info! I'm going to start covering the water. After reading that info I think It will be very doable for me to mix like a 5 gal bucket worth of solution and get a top for it and just use like 1 bucket of solution a week or something.
