Learn from the mistakes of others

My hope for this thread is for people to post problems they have had in past and how they could of been avoided. That way growers of old and new can learn from each other's mistakes all in one place. Maybe a new grower in future will be able to read this and not make a lot of new person mistakes.

Anyways I hope this will add value for others.

I'll go first.

I'm still very new and one mistake I made so far was being impatient. The other week I had planted a seed into soil and gave it a few days to sprout. I hadn't seen anything yet so I started digging down to find the seed. I saw that it had germinated but didn't reach surface yet. I left it as it was and I'm pretty sure I stressed it out messing with it and coupled with the fact it was getting light before it was ready is probably what killed it.

Just another example of why patience is so important. I'm sure if I left it and didn't dig down in search of it everything would of been fine.

One of the biggest problems with new growers is that they get far too handsy with their grows. When you go digging around, you need to do it with a light hand. You can use something like a watercolor paint brush to gently move the medium.

I screw something up with every grow. Due to forgetfulness of nutes I'm using. For instance, as I transition from one nute line to the next, such as with ph perfect, I forgot to ph the new plant. It worked out just fine, but it could have been a bummer. Muscle memory fail.

I've done a few grows and germinate using "the Ronin way". There have been a couple of times when the seed takes ages to sprout and I've got to try not to poke around looking for signs. I've been scratching my head with the current seeds. One sprouted (photo attached) a couple of days ago, but it doesn't look like the first leaves are going to develop. Just looked at the ronin way thread again and notice that he advises putting it under some light until the first leaves sprout. I don't have the recommended light bulb, so I'm about to try putting her in the tent with one LED at a distance.....fingers crossed..... anyone have any ideas? They are Sensi seed Afghani #1 auto's

Is that the seed still on it? Also you might get more help starting new thread. This one is more meant for sharing lessons learned and might not be checked as much as a new thread with descriptive title for your issue.

No I removed the seed earlier, but I am about to start a grow journal....cheers

I learned from my own mistake that when starting seeds that are going into a hydro set up that it greatly helps to use at least 1/16 of the manufacturer's recommended full dose of nutes. My not doing so wasn't the biggest set back in the world but I'm sure it would have helped get the ball rolling a little quicker.

Are they old seeds? I have tons of seeds that does this from a badly stored batch. They just don't have enough energy to form the cotyledons. You will notice that the dry and shriveled up parts are pretty much dead. I managed to save one (not doing the best) by wetting it a few times a day with a dripper.
