Hey all!

I want to upgrade my lighting system soon (when I get the extra $$) and I know it's all about the lumens so my question is this... Who has the best system?

I went to my local hydro shop today and the owner gave me a copy of the 2011 Gardener's Digest and I noticed that eventho certain companies offer 250W (for example) and let's say Sunleaves bulb provides 28,000 lumens then say Hortilux's bulb will provide 30,500 lumens in a 250W bulb. Is Hortilux a reputable company? They seem to blow other companies away as far as Lumens but at the same wattage. I'm am also speaking of HPS lamps/ballasts because that's what I want. Since it's all about the lumens I want to purchase the best system so I get the most lumens from my wattage. Thanks in advance for any advice!

yep find the bulbs with best lumen output the cheapo kind will always be less quality.

My main HPS is a 250 and i use the stock bulb HTG
i have had no issues with it up till this point. I am pleased with the results
i had 10 Jems under it and almost got 3/4 lb

Lumens are for humans..... Seriously guys this is not a proper measure to rank plant absorbency of light. What you want to know is the amount of par it throws off. My units lumens aren't nearly as high as a 250w hid but my par output is vastly superior an is the reason why my plants are so healthy at half the wattage drawn. Just some food for thought.

Like TBM said, if you are going 250w you are better off with a Philips RetroHPS 250w Ceramic Metal Halide bulb. It should be better in every aspect and probably will also be cheaper.

I just put in a 600w, and after having them under floros the new growth is quite amazing to see. It's thicker, more textured, and when it first is coming out the leaves are pointing straight up and tall, if that makes sense. They just look so different after 5 days I can hardly believe it.

Mine do that from time to time too when the light is really close. I always think that my plants are praying that I move it away some lol.

what you guys are actually seeing is the stretch phase of the autos.
I have seen this under florous, HPS close and far.

I usually see this in weeks 3 and 4 until the head bud forms.
i always thing of them lifting and reaching, each night the set that was sticking
straight up is usually out and horizontal.

The light is over 3 feet away from the tops of the plants right now, and the ones that are doing that are photo plants. It is neat looking, though. And man the preflowers came out to play!

nice, i have seen it time to time on photos but have seen it more active on the autos.
I am running a Bluse Hash photo right now and that has to have some of the wildest
leaf emergance i have ever seen.

kinda hard to see here but if you notice in the middle the leaves almost seem to be twisting out
at first i thought it was a pH issue but then as i watched it was the way that they emerged allowing
the larger fans in the end.
