Indoor Is the light 46in from tops of plants ok?

Hi all,
I am using a 250watt light setup and pushing 400+CFM through the hood. I am able to place the back of my hand to the bottom of the hood glass for a LONG periods of time without getting burned. At the moment the hood is raised 46in from the tops of the seedlings. Should I lower the hood; to what distance? I would of lowered the light without asking, but I know not only does excessive heat kill, the intensity of light can also kill.

If you dont keep the light close the plants will stretch and become weak and fall over....

Have the plants come thru the soil/medium yet?

Lower the light to 18-24" if there already above the soil/medium then lower it over three days to that level. Dropping daily...

They are above soil I will follow what you suggested! Thanks for the help!

cres nailed it for you.
46in is to far, except maybe to keep the grow space warm when still germinating the seeds.
Once they break ground, begin the light in closer about 8-10inches a day until like mentioned before you get about 18-24inches.
With a 250W, I think you could even bring it in to about 12inches above canopy - but depending on your space, that might be too close if not able to keep things cool or need the light spread to reach farthest plants

The ladies are in a 3ft x 3ft x 5ft tent. The heat never goes above 77f. Do you still think 12in is to close?

Sorry I read that to quick...thought you had a 400 not a 250.... 12" is where you want to be... with a 400w leaves can be 6" before they will burn so with a 250 its close to the same, 12" is where mine would be for sure....
