Live Stoner Chat I need your help!! - with my neighbor

What's up guys!
Here is my scenario, I am mid 30's, my neighbor is probably 60. I think he smokes a bowl every day after work, he keeps to himself.

We talk, the wife's talk, but nothing more than friendly hello's.

My question is, and I'm not a obvious stoner or anything, how do I approach this guy ? I feel like saying "hey! You smoking weed over there?!" But I don't know how that would com across.

What is the worst that can happen? Consider that. If it's legal or close enough where you live, for ex. if they don't get search warrants just because somebody reports someone is known to comsume cannabis, I can't think of any downsides.

But you may want to change your basic approach from asking him "hey! You smoking weed over there?," putting him on the spot, to first dropping hints, let him see you puffing away in the back yard, etc. Or I'd recommend just be friendlier -- tell him you're a recreational consumer and ask him if he wants to join you sometime; or pull out a joint/pipe/vaporizer and ask him if interested when you happen to be talking to him.

If you've gotten this far with this guy, he is likely not going to react badly if you tell him you're a consumer. And otherwise, as a babyboomer he could well have more diverse drug experience than you have.

Tried and tested method for thousands of years.

I had to feel out my neighbor a while back.. not cause he smoked.. but i wanted to know his tolerance level for my smokin.. i just struck up a convo about MMJ that was in the news.. lol old folks are always into the news... and he was more than happy to share his feelings on the subject.
good convo...turns out.. i need to be acutely aware of my smokin as he is not a fan.

Great question. Good neighbours think about this stuff before making decisions.

That said, I doubt that details matter here. The guy is obviously using weed, so you already know which side of that fence he is on. If your other interactions with him and his wife have been friendly, I think you have little to worry about.

If I were you, I would simply mention to him when he lights up that you think that smells really good, and see where the conversation goes from there. My money is on further discussion of strains, etc. etc., maybe while enjoying a mutual puff. If you are growing your own, sharing a bit of the stash would make for good vibes as well.

All this from an observer a tad older than your neighbour. Good luck, and good on you for being considerate about your neighbour.

Yoyo! Quick update.
Thank you all for your input on this, it really helped me think about my approach and actually make it right vs potentially calling him out.

We have about 1 acre properties so we don't share fence lines like in a tight neighborhood or anything like that.

I noticed him on his back porch and since I had already had a couple of beers I felt confident I can figure this shit out.

I said hello and started talking about some hostas that my wife said came from this guy back when some other people owned our house. We just divided the hostas this spring -> 3 plants gave us 20 large bunches so I honestly felt really good and wanted to know if they truly came from my neighbor.

This staeted off a good conversation about some other things around our yards. I then noticed he was wearing a t-shirt that said "hogs breath" on it and I asked him about it since I thought that was a type of weed... Well turns out that shirt came from a bar in key West FL but it gave a good intro to weed and I asked him if he smoked out back sometimes, I thought it looked like it. He said "of course" and I gave him a little baggy of some assorted things which he seemed very excited about.

In a way I have a feeling he might grow, probably I am wrong. I don't really have a clue, but he did say he would put something together for me too

I haven't spoken to him since, but honestly we don't really talk a whole lot, so nothing is out of the ordinary here. Let's see how this continues. I am excited.
