Mars hydro II 900W

Okay I just bought one on eBay after talking with the owner. $225. He said he used it for one grow but moved and had to sell. I'm willing to roll the dice at this price.
http://www.mars-hydro.com/mars-ii-led-grow-light-900w.html

Now if the old expression is true "you can never have too much light" then I'm setting at about 61 draw-watts per square foot at 6.9 square feet of grow area.
I bought this much light with the idea of possible expansion later.

Will I need to raise and lower this light considering my space is so small and my ceiling is about 5 feet?

As far as glasses go will regular sunglasses work?

NOTE: Sorry for the cross-post but this forum seems more appropriate.

No, regular glasses will not work! Get a good pair of led glasses and you will not go wrong. Different spectrum of glass! Glasses for MH/HPS will not work either. I know they are expensive, but what is your eyesight worth? I have a pair of these and have never once, regretted that purchase!

Yes, that is alot of light for a small space, you will need to keep it up top and as the plant grows, you may encounter the tops getting bleached from too much par!

I'm running 900 WATT led. I'm at about 17" from my buds right now and I feel that’s close enough! Could MAYBE get away with 14-15" before light burn starts. 5 feet is not a lot of room if your going to grow BIG girls,my plant is at 43" not counting the pot, that addes asnother 11". And my room is 7'4". With the rope ratchet and light hanger, I'm maxed for light height, I'd need to build a custom hanger to get higher. I'd say with young plants/seedlings you could do 30", with 18-22" in mid veg. You'll just need to see what works for you, on your space

You'll be ok if you keep the height of you plants down.

I have six square feet grow space 3' x 2' & have 510W actual draw which equates to 85 W per Sqr foot.

The 85 W per Sqr foot is at point of origin, inverse square law will still apply and the further the lights are away from the plant the weaker the intensity.

3 LED's 2 x 180 W actual draw with veg/bloom/full spectrum switches & 1 x 150 W full spectrum = 510 W in total actual draw.

I don't use the them at full tilt through the whole grow but in flower they are all on 100%.

You can have to much light intensity which can present itself in two way, the serrated edges of your leaf turning up so the look like crocodile/ dragons teeth & Bleaching of the bud tips sometime called "hash tips".

I have had both of these happen at which point I move my lights up some.

I realize my amount of light may seem a little excessive but it is what I have to play with and play with it I will.

I never directly look at the LEDs when they are on, far too bright, i'd end up damaging my eyes.

Two of my lights have UV LED's in the mix, so UV protective sunglasses helps if my lights are high enough to affect my eyes, I like to grow my plants low and compact , so it doesn't come to that.

LED specific grow room glasses will help you see your plants in a more natural kind light rather than everything being pink, they will also protect your eyes.

It is still advise not to look directly at the LEDs, these glasses weren't designed for that. http://www.methodseven.com/operator-led.html

I'm picking up those glasses today for $65 at a local hydro store. Wow 85 watts per square feet! Good to know I haven't overdone it. I figured AF plants in general are shorter so I will be okay.

When The Joint Doctor released Lowryder, part of the of the breeding process was to produce a stealthy, short automatic cannabis strain.

A lot of the early adopters of autoflower breeders used Lowryder as breeding stock ,which produced strains which were not the tallest plants in the world.

Over time breeders have created some very small plants, some reaching only 20 CM but there are also autoflowers which can reach 250 CM.

Scrogging, topping, fimming,LST and other methods can help to keep the height down of strains that like to get tall like hazes etc

Always read the breeder description of a strain you want to grow as it will give an approximation of how tall it will grow.

So it is not a given that auto's are small in stature, far from it.

There will be loads of people to help out in any way they can during your grow and there are some very talented and knowledgeable growers on the forums, who be sure to guide you through it.
