What’s up Growers?

This is my first post so I hope this is the right place and the correct way to do this.

The question I have is has anyone here ever grown seeds from I 49 seed bank?Their website has plenty of reviews and they are all good. I question this because there is always going to be a bad review.

The other reason I ask is because I am having problems getting their seeds to grow once they pop out of the coco. This is my first time with auto flowers, so for now I am going to blame myself even though I am doing everything the same that I have done with photo periods.

Are auto flowers seedlings more sensitive to light burn then photo periods? The reason I ask is because it appears I am burning them up as soon as they pop out of the coco. Sorry no pictures because I just started all over .

:welcome: Hi @Mitch Digger Welcome to AFN. :welcome:

Genetics are not the likely cause for what I believe is happening. Since you have already started over then this is just a guess based on not enough information but it sounds like damping off. The contributing factors include wet (soggy) soil, high Relative Humidity >80%, high or low temperature. There are several molds and fungi that are opportunistic when given their environment. These pathogens can be on the seed stock you are using or in the soil you bought, off your shoes or hands; it is basically everywhere. So how to prevent it. Start with fresh soil/media, a quick rinse of your seeds in H2o2 before planting. Control the environment @78°F RH 60-70% Run your lights 24/7 until the cotoledens have greened up then go to 18/6 for the rest of their lives.

Mañ`O’Green,

Thanks for the reply. I think you nailed it when you it sounds like damping off. Possibly from over watering? I am using Coco/perlite with about an 80/20 mix in a fabric pot. I have been watering the entire pot until run off every day. I think that was too much and should have only giving it a shot glass full of water from what I have been reading? Correct me on any of this if I am wrong.

Thank you also for the light schedule. I have been doing 20/4 but will adjust to your recommendation.

My temps and humidity match recommendation.

sounds like damping off

Way over watering a seedling. That’s for a plant with established roots like week 4 check out slowandeasy thread in mephisto about starting seeds. His method will get u great healthy roots quick.

I'm currently growing 4 plants from i49 8n canada.. their website was recently taken down by the rcmp in canada.. however I got my order of a dozen seeds.. so far I've had 2 germinate but never break the soil and a third that was a weird lil mutant for the first month of its life but is truckin along now.. check out my grow journal if you wanna see how they are doing.. this is however my first grow so take what you see with a grain of salt as I'm definitely not the best to say how good the genetics are

It is a little bit tricky in the begining because you do not want to let your coco dry out anywhere in the pot. It may become hydrophobic if it gets dry pockets. On the flip side you don't want it too wet. Watering the whole pot is the best but not so often in the beginning. Use a root riot, rapid rooter, rock wool starter cube, etc. If the seeds are old scuff them slightly with super fine sand paper just a little to scarify the shell and soak them for a few hours in a weak solution of Kelp and Humic acid. Then plant. If the seeds are fresh just plant them 1/2 inch deep in the starter cube.

Thanks for the advice again. I can’t believe what a tough time I am having this run.

I ended up buying a humidity dome and heat mat. I will soak the seeds for a few hours then put the seeds into a 4 inch rockwool cube. Keeping the cube in the dome until I see the first set of leafs. Then transplant into some fresh coco/perlite.

What is your experience growing autos in different mediums? Is there a medium that works better then others? Right now I use the coco/perlite because that is what I have. After this run I will need to restock my medium.

4" cubes have a lot of volume and you do not want to get lazy roots (poor root mass) You may need to do a dry down or two before transplanting. You After germination wrap the sides of the cube in plastic film and let it dry back slowly to about 35%. This will stimulate root growth. I have not used the 4" but the 6" cube takes 9 or 10 days to dry back. Anyhow you get the idea?

This would be my preference in order of desire:

1. Outdoors in 5 year old organic soil. Illegal here with no gorilla options.
2. Indoors with My new lights in organic soil. Yeah baby, I got the lights. I have a bad back and cannot lift heavy pots.
3. Indoors with My new lights in DWC. did I mention I got new Lights? It gets too hot here to run DWC and chilling is not an option.
4 The method I use now, precision drip to waste in 6" rock wool cubes; with my new lights of course.

I am really excited about my new lights. I hope they make a difference. I had pretty good lights already.
