Ok maybe this is a dumb question but curious how you guys prepare your coco before placing a seed in it?

If using Canna coco and remo nutes, should...?
1st) wash the the coco with good clean water then drain the water out?
2nd) then add 1 dose of cal-mag per gallon of water, and let the coco sit the water/calming solution for like 8 hours
3rd) drain after 8 hours
4th) let sit for roughly 24 hours or so, so it moist but damp then add to a 5 gal pot and add seed?

Does that sound like a logical plan at all? Really confused on
this. Never did this the 1st time and running into bad cal-mag issues in middle of 2nd week (I think?)

Curious how you guys prepare your coco?

Thanks!!

If you are using Canna Coco, the brand, they pre buffer their products, age them properly etc.
At least that is what they claim. Lots of growers are very happy with the Canna line of products. It is ready to use straight out of the bag. I'm pretty sure they do not sell an un-buffered product.
That being said I personally add a half to 1/4 strength cal mag to most of my waterings. If you have city or well water there may be plenty of calcium present which leaves you with the question of using epsom salts and balancing with potassium. From what I understand part of the key to coco is that cal/mag/P relationship.
Hope this helps.

That's what I thought also...
Just the way these 1st leaves at the bottom are yellowing off hard not sure what else it could be besides over watering which it could be too.
Just trying to have idea so not to run into same problem next time (yellowing of bottom leaves, 1st leaves after catyledon on all look terrible and creeping up).

I'd like to start 2 more and try washing and buffering the coco 1st and see what happens.

I grow in canna coco I've grown with that and canna clay pebble mix I just pot up and go I also use remo nutes and start feeding at a very mild solution and with calmag every watering and make sure once your roots are settled then water to run off all the time and you should be golden

Well made the long trek to to our local hydro store to pickup coco. Started asking him this question and he said "no need" we keep talking and then he mentions 10% or so runoff.

I mentioned I haven't even come close to having any chance of any run off when watering (cautious of over watering in 5 gal as a 1st timer).

All I've read for 7-8 months is "noobs problems" and #1 is over watering. I figured that was the problem, but was was not sure I wasnt over watering and maybe "not buffering scenario" as option too to what's happening. I never thought underwatering?

I looked into under watering after talking to him and posting this, and the leaves are very dry, brittle almost. I slowly put basically a bunch 640ppm solution in slowly throughout the day and starting to look better now.l almost a gallon over 4 5gal airpots and still no run off. Added touch more later maybe 125ml of 5.9ph water with 1/3 dose of Recharge.

Sorry guys I was so lost and confused but might of figured out the problem for "now" until next problem comes.

Ill post pics at lunch.
Thanks for all the help!

you cant overwater coco but early on i go a little lighter on the feed to give the little roots air to breathe also here is lots of my threads some are a page with every update you may get some tips and as i said i use remo myself also nice to meet you growbro https://www.autoflower.org/find-threads/started

By the way I quit cal mag about 4 weeks b4 harvest. Dot want that in my product. Under watering to the point that leaves are "crispy" would result in leaves severely drooping as well as the stems. Over watering results in the leaves losing their tragidity and is usually is figured out b4 the stems begin to droop. I never water to run off but I am organic. My mature plants in 5 gal coco take 1 gallon every 24-36 hours.

Yes I keep reading that. I had 1 start to drop just a touch maybe 10 days ago and I figured ok maybe a little heavy handed with the watering, so I cut back a touch. It got worse and worse so kept only giving very little water. Pots were always basically on the verge of dry. I hit them pretty heavy yesterday like I mentioned and know just waiting to see how they respond. 1st timer with no one to turn too but google and forums and youtube.
Thanks for the help!!

Thanks again St. Tom. You were EXTREMELY helpful a couple months with my last thread. Always much appreciated!!
And yes that was the "plan" light water early and I did pretty well the 1st 12-14 days then things started to turn.
Like said I've see many "noob mistakes" vids, articles, ect. and over watering is the main problem, do I've been too cautious.
