I've read that R/O water can't be pH tested because there is no conductivity in the water.

If that is the case then how is reverse osmosis water tested for pH? Add a little tap water?

I think you may be getting a little confused. It recommended not to use ph pens in RO water because it deterates the sensor.

You can ph RO water with the ph strips and ph fluid with accuracy, mine comes out at 7. I use House and Garden ph fluid to test mine. Gone through to many blu labs ph pens.

Per Bluelab, you can’t use a pH pen because there’s nothing in the water to conduct the current in the pen.

On on my 2nd combo meter. 3rd replacement probe. Lol

Nice find. I stand corrected.

I'm 2 combo meters sensers and 3 pens down from blu labs. 2 of my pens died due to dropping... on carpet.
To much hassle in looking after the pen and sensors. Haven't looked back since using the pH fluid for testing.

I've used fluid and the little strips to test before my meters. I will continue to buy bluelab combo meters as needed. Usually the ph pen wire goes to shit after a couple years of twirling it around. I sold my first after I thot I was done growing cuz I had medical problems. But here I am back at it again. Restarted from the bottom, now I'm here. Lol

It is the same for distilled water when using combo devices, nothing to provide conductivity. So when using either distilled or RO water I always add something before testing like a surfactant, recharge, silica, big bloom, calmag, etc, something.

Lil bit of calmag here or it's a pain to adjust in straight ro water. It shoots way down then way up with just a few drops. Lol I add some calmag and it don't go crazy like that.
