I am new to growing. I have looked at images of mold and bud rot online and I have looked at images that people post about it and many of the images I do not think I would have been able to tell it. I have 1 main worry about smoking what I grow and that is that I would unknowingly smoke something that had a problem in the grow and get sick from it. How obvious is mold and bud rot in the bud? Would I definitely be able to see it on the plant? If not then is it something that when trimming you would definitely notice when you trim it for it on there?

I found it reasonably easy to see. The first symptom while growing is often premature yellowing of sugar leaves, and when you pull gently on them, they come out of the bud easily. Bad sign, so watch for it and plan your chop accordingly. Once going, it can spread quickly. On my outdoor grow last summer, I kept right on top of it and chopped any branch with the first hint, and I still lost ~30% of the bud to rot.

Once you chop and trim you will find more. If you are chopping to chase mold, I suggest pulling the colas apart into individual buds and drying them on a screen or in brown paper bags. If you try to dry whole colas, undetected rot will continue and do more damage before you realize it is there.

If you are growing indoors and keep your RH under control, you are unlikely to have a problem, just keep that air moving with fans, and if necessary, trim leaves to open the canopy. Just my 2 cents, there are lots of peeps here with hundreds of times more experience than I have. Good luck with it.

Look, inside if you respect VPD you should be ok. Outside you have to be carefull if it's too humid

Once you incur bud rot, you'll definitely recognize it the next time. I seldom see any problem with my autos as their lifespan and density isn't as conducive...The longer flowering photos are where I find parameters/ specs are most important. I recently added an ac/dehumidifier to my flower tent which has definitely helped since summers are so humid in my area.

Thanks. I have a 32x32 tent with a few fans in it moving air around and try to have it to where I see most if not every bud moving a little from the fans and I have the ac infinity 6" fan with filter for exhaust with a small intake fan pulling fresh air into the tent with temperature in the tent of like 79 - 81f with rh like 45 - 55% rh for it on there.

Sounds spot on to me. I doubt you will have problems. If you can keep RH down in the 40's once the buds start coming on, you should be golden. You do need to watch temps and humidity during lights off too if you are not on 24/0.

Good luck with it. :pighug:

One of my babies got mould and it was very noticeable. And it was all my fault because I wasn't monitoring the humidity.

Like the others said, the sugar leaves go yellow and pull out easily. Also you can really smell the mould, and you can tell from looking from underneath. The stem just below the bud went yellow and squishy, and I could see thick white fluff under the buds.
