Ok, so almost everyone is stretched, guess I just gotta live with that. Can't win em all eh?
Anyway, I'm really interested to hear how long people take to drop their lights to final veg height? I've got 10' to come down from where they are at now, with first true leaves.
What stage is the plant at when it's ready?
Ok, two questions there:)
Thanks all :worship:

Not sure on your actual question...
I have mine at 22" and raise them as the plant grows. Never lower them.
What height did you start at, what's the height now?
It'll really help to give a light description too. LEDs can almost go so low that the tops touch the light but if you did that with an HPS you'd fry them.
Pictures also help with diagnosis.

Starting in final pots I'm at 34' for germination and need to come down to 24' for my proper veg period as they can handle it.
Sorry, should have said I've started in final pots in original.

Starting in final pots is usual practice for me too and I set my lights to 22" above the top of the plants. I have a plumb bob hanging from the lights so I don't have to keep measuring. When the canopy grows 3-6" higher than the weight the lights get raised.

What light are you using?
It's really all about what light you're using and at what intensity. If you have a 600W HPS it would be higher than an LED that draws the same current as it kicks out more heat. One way to get closer with an HPS is to rig your extraction to a housing that's air cooled.

It's a Platinum 600, veg recommended 24'. So are you saying that I could germinate and start at that? That would be awesome!!!! I bet I'd have no stretching then!! :bighug:

Nice light!
Yeah drop that bad boy down. Your girls should start filling out then.
Let them grow to the light and keep an eye on the tips, if you see any bleaching then raise again.
I think 34 is a bit high. Next run id start between 24 and 30 and monitor their progress.

I looked so long for that sort of info before.....
Thanks heaps Chronic :d5:

Sometimes that early stretch is genetic. Many times I've had to add a ring made out of a plastic cup to the top of the pot, and add a little more medium around the long stem to help with strength.

Honestly a taller seedling is easier to work with that a squat little twerp. Moving the plant around to get water in kinda sucks.

Lol, you've made me feel better about the stretching, thanks Arthur.
