right troops, i have a question about
root rot.
when using coco/soil etc if the roots are constantly wet then they rot and your smoking absolutely hee haw once that happens. however, when using hydro the roots are constantly soaking and if all is well then by comparisson should yeild higher than an equivalent soil/coco grow. why dont the roots rot in hydro? what am i missing here?

They rot in hydro more than any other medium in my opinion. Nasty, smelly stuff.

I gotcha bro..what yer asking is what steps do hydro growers take or what products do they use to prevent root rot..im not a hydro grower but im sure one will be able to give a better answer than i can... Maybe @Hansbricks can give you an idea since he is in autopots.. peace...

i have over 15 years experiense with hydroponic and never had root rot.that said. cannazym and zensizym are products that will help prevent rot (they say).
and ofcourse having enough air in the rootzone,, low root zone temp..use chem. nutes. having bio material in your nutrients/rootzone can cause rot. That should cover the basics.

My current setup is top feed recirc. with zero bubbles in my resovoir and just for fun i also use a organic natural root growth supplement.
I have used cannazym with resovoir temps hitting 25c++. no rot, but im not sure it was the cannazym..
its not all set in stone.
just my 2 cents
Stay green :)

Someone correct me,if I'm wrong!!
Always get a second opinion!! ore more!!

thanks guys, and hi ksjauto im doing nft so you sound like a very handy person to know. would you mind the occasional tag as i only know 2 other hydro fans. im not worried about root rot. i was of the impression that most of the time in hydro its due to light getting to them and ive been careful to avoid that. was just a general wondering as ive been doing a lot of reading on different methods and what im actually meant to be doing and trying to understand things properly. second grow so still a noob. the point i was getting at though is with coco you need to dry the roots out a bit as if theyre too wet for too long they rot but they dont rot when spending their lives submerged in water. just trying to understand why this happens and wondered if anyone knew?

The roots can survive in water because of the airstone. The roots can obsorb oxygen from the tiny bubbles. If you put them in a dwc bucket with no air stone they would die due to no oxygen then the roots would rot too.
Thats why they need a dry cycle in soil/coco so the roots can absorb oxygen.
Im shit at explaining things lol

Roots dont rot because they are wet, its because of pythium a fungal like organism that destroys them. If your not careful a dwc bucket or any hydro reservoir can become the perfect environment for it to thrive.
heres a thread about it

see that, ask an apparently silly question and get an extremely sensible answer. good effort sir. love learning all this stuff. gives me a wee buzz , cheers dude :woody:for your efforts i present you with the dancing, yellow, cock out, space pig. enjoy.

I don't mind[emoji16]. But among those hydro systems and grow medium that I have not used, is nutrient film technique and Coco..rdwc + aeroponic. So can't really help out.
Coco holds about 20% of air when wet. Thats about what I know about Coco.
Theres a sticky in the hydro section about Coco. you should tjeck it out + a hole section with Coco grows. Lots of skilled growers and brains to pick.
But I'm not one of them I'm afraid

If you where using leca/hydroton top feed that's another story..
