Firstly, this is just so I can learn more about the average consumer to improve my reviews.

I already have my set up, but I am curious how you decide yours!

My experience:
I went solely by cost. I started with cfls, then pieced everything together over about a year.

It started with a tent, and a single cfl (shtty I know lol), eventually bought an led light, then exhaust fan, and then two additional LEDs.

If I had to do it again, I would have just bought a complete setup. (Fml lol)

What are other considerations you look at? Brand names, power consumption, stealth or anything else?

Thank you for your time reading and if you reply! :)

It was only after my 1st grow that I found this site which provided plenty of helpful tips about what's great / good / not so good / crap. Additional research has led me to my current set up - Gorilla Shorty 3 x 3 x 5.8 tent. GN Telos 0008 + HLG 100 QB. Phresh Hyperfan and CarboAir 50 filter. I've just purchased a Wilma system that I'll be using on the new grow. The only component I'll change is the tent - I grow in a converted loft with plenty of space so a loft tent with a bigger footprint and increased height will be purchased at some point. Having learnt the hard way that 4 large plants don't fit a 3 x 3 I'm thinking a 1.2m x 1.2 m will allow 2 or 3 beasts to be grown.

Cost was a secondary consideration in terms of the purchases - AFN is a great tool to research most products on the market, to dispel myths and quoted figures, to get a take on how these products actually perform in a real grow setting etc...Someone here typically has used the light / tent / fan that is being considered and they'll happily answer questions, provide guidance and provide evidence of the results on ocassion too. Quality, reliability and end product were the biggest drivers in making my decisions.

Granted there is a lot of bull on the interent and it's easy to get swamped by so much conflicting information - not at AFN.

I've hopefully got the set up that I'll stay with for the next few years....apart from upgrading the tent.

Ultimately it's different strokes for different folks - budget will be the primary driver for many [again do your research, ask questions, post threads etc....before you hit the buy button - you'd be surprised how much bang for your buck you can get if you know where to look!].

I think we'd all agree though, and forgive another cliché, there are many ways to skin a cat and it's the results we're all after. Tent set up is but one part of the process. You can have great components in the tent but it don't guarantee great harvests. Conversely you can achieve a great harvest with budget items too.

refined it over time to the environment to my area / micro climate in my house

If I was to start fresh... which I'm getting in few months, moving house, new G'room to build then due to the experience I have now and the knowledge of brands this coming build will be more precises and direct. No trying something new out.

Stealth come first for me then energy consumption... I do stick to brand names as this is the one industry you get what you pay for... buy cheap, buy twice

here a link to piece I wrote for the newbie about buying their first lot of gear - https://www.autoflower.org/threads/...t-you-did-right-and-wrong-at-the-start.64490/
