How bad are constant short-term temperature swings?

Hey yall...

Room im growing is slightly cold atm, tempratures around 17c-20c (62-68f) and to give them a bit more heat i bought a heater with a thermostat, but what happes is, the heater goes on when the tents temp reaches about 21c and it bumps the temp to as much as 31-34c within minutes and it turns itself off, and then the cycle repeat, say once every hour....

How does that constat temperature swing affect the plant? Am I better off just leaving her at 20c with a bit more lightning?

Thanks all in advance and happy growing <3

I know some really cold temps can stall growth but maybe someone more clued up can advise you

I plug my heater into one of these things. Works great if your heater runs on a switch. It'll allow you to set high and low temps and control it for you

i think its ok to be around 20c
below 18c id start to worry
below 15c all growth stops
mine swing from 22c-25c lights on to 17-20 lights off and i do ok :pass:

I've pasted in one of the graphs from "Photosynthetic response of Cannabis sativa L. to variations in photosynthetic photon flux densities, temperature and CO2 conditions".

The plants in the study were in a CO2-enhanced environment so photosynthesis rates will be lower in a non-CO2 environment. Putting that aside, temperature is a major factor.

In terms of the daily swing, I wouldn't think that it's causing any harm to have that range, other than photosynthesis will slow down as temperature drops. With temps in that low range and with reduced P rates, the plants will be transpiring less and will need a lower level of ferts. With demand for those parts of the growing equation being reduced, this may not be the grow to hit your plants with 1000µmols.:) Make sure they've got plenty of food (light) but I would expect that they'll hit their light saturation point at a value lower than normal.

As JP1 recommends, the Inkbird works great. I've had to use a little oil heater and "Hotbird", as I named it, did a great job for me.
