Ok a I've decided to make my own AutoPot the only thing I have left to get is a smart valve but I might just run without one for a while just to see how it works. Ill just use a 5 gallon bucket to add water to her.

So here is what I've done. Enjoy

I used a 36 gallon tote for my bottom water tank. An 18 gallon tote for the soil. I filled about 1/3 of the bottom of the tote with clay pebbles the the rest with soil.

Drilled holes in and around the bottom of the 18 gallon tote. And used some bed raisers to support/lift the soil tote off the bottom. She should hold 5 gallons of water when completely full.

Not sure if its going to work or help anything but only one way to find out just to do it and c.

Here is my thought process. I bought 200$ worth of DP seeds and I figure the more room the roots have the bigger the plant can get. Also if I ever plan to do a photo plant the same for it I shouldent have to worry about root binding.

FWIW I've sen almost the same thing done elsewhere. One minor upgrade to consider for future endeavors would be to cut a hole in the center bottom of the upper tote and drop a netpot in there to act as a wick. Basically would be a SIP setup.

Looks cool though. Can't wait to see how this pans out.

Not necessarily. A plant given unlimited root space will only use the space it needs. In otherwords, more space does not mean more roots. I grow in 8 gallon airpots and my plants always have enough space but never use all the space I provide them. (there's probably a better word than "space" but you get what I mean.)

Right and I defiantly understand this but on the other hand my last plant I grew in a 18 gallon tote roots were threw the whole tote from top to bottom side to side. Also I don't want to give the plant any reason to stunt. Rather be safe then sorry.

I also find myself going to big but id rather be to big then to small. I was gonna run in a 10 gallon tote for soil and 18 for water but didn't like how it was looking.

But yes this is one thing I've thought of I will be surprised if the roots even reach the bottom with an auto but we will see and then ill change my prototype lol
