So some of you may be familiar with Ryan Riley's How to Grow Elite Marijuana, however, there are several side books that come with it. One of which is how to make your own home-made smoking devices, I came along one that seemed super easy and was described to be a little-god, so color me curious, I decided to make it and did it pay off well.
No pictures so you will have to really visualize it lol, do not attempt under the influence
Things you will need:
- a standard incandescent light bulb easily found in light fixtures that you don't use frequently, usually between 75-100 watts.
- A knife, serrated steak knife preferable or one really sharp that you won't mind to dull
- a pop cap lid or other 16, 24 oz bottle cap lid around the size of a nickel. Get one with a flip top with a small hole for more fun.
Step 1. place the bulb on a flat surface, hold the bulb gently yet firmly at where the metal meets the bulb. Do not add too much pressure to shatter it.
Step 2. Grab the knife and at the top of the bulb where then end starts to crown up to the point where the bulb makes contact with the socket, begin to cut by making sharp pulls toward you until you slice through the metal and into the empty space where the bulb's "guts" are housed, continue to do this evenly and in a straight line around the bulb by rotating the bulb a quarter turn until you have made a straight cut all the way through. Once again you want to cut the end tip off, about 1/2 inch of the bulb to where you expose it but have enough thread left to put on the cap.
Step 3. Take the knife or another sharp object and place a portion of the blade into the empty space and begin to rotate slightly to break and dislodge the superfluous glass and wire system. Take caution to not damage the bulb or the metal you just need to break and crack the housing for the wire.
Step 4. Remove all the wire and glass from the inside.
Step 5. Rinse and wash the inside of the bulb to remove the white powdery coating from the inside to make the glass nice and clear, you can use one of two methods: 1. Fill with hot soapy water and shake vigorously by covering the end hole repeatedly until all the white surface left is at the very bottom that meets the metal, this is natural and will be very hard to remove. or 2. use a small bottle brush and give it some elbow grease. Either way it will be clean enough to use. Allow to dry.
Step 6. Take the cap and if using a soda pop lid make two holes either by warming the end of a paper clip with a lighter and poking it through and stirring till desired circumference or take a knife or screwdriver. But be careful, you need one hole to fit a STRAW and the other just for a carb. If you have a rubbing alcohol flip-top lid half of your work is done for you. Now place a small straw through the bigger hole. Voila, your inhalation system is now complete.
Step 7. Fill the bulb with a hit or two of smoke, get a lighter or another safe fire source and begin to heat up the bottom of the bulb, shake the bulb slightly to agitate the material over the burning surface, it might take 20 seconds or more but you will soon see your bulb to fill up with white fluffy goodness, the bottom of the bulb will blacken but THIS IS NORMAL. Heat it up to either when you desire the hit or when you start to see vapor escaping through any leak. Then take a massive inhale on the straw. What's that? Very light coughing with little to no taste? Yes, yes indeed but just wait a few minutes.. Feel it don't you? Faster and less irritation eh? Yes sir it is a little god.
Step 8. Change the straw (when it is nasty) and wash the bulb out occasionally, wipe the bottom of the bulb with a soft rag or paper towel, wet or dry, WHEN COOL!
Enjoy, I will post a picture of mine in the following days. You now have a cheap vaporizer that can be easily replaced and will hit you like a gravity bong. Life is good.
