i need something that will work for my little home use .somebody recomenend something that works.the lowes ph meter is crap.also what do i need to raise and lower ph?

There are plenty of PH meters out there, try Amazon.com, they have lots of grow stuff at good prices... Typically you need the meter, a bottle of calibration (7.0) fluid and the PH up and down bottles.

My PH meter is a Oakton Ecotester PH2 (Eutech instruments)

I own this one and I have no complaints.Less than $20 including shipping & handling.

If it's to check the PH of your water I have a fish tank one I bought from Amazon quite cheaply. If you go digital, you will need PH buffer liquid to calibrate your tester periodically (i use buffer 7), some people say a cleaning fluid but I use de-ionised water, and PH up and PH down liquid. Also you have to be very careful when you clean the probe so as not to damage it. And be careful with the up and down liquids. They hurt if you spill them on yourself and are highly corrosive. There are other methods of raising or lowering your PH like lemon juice, lime etc but I have not used them. Somebody else will have to come along and tell you about them too.

The buffer fluid and up and down liquid can be bought from your hydro-shop, aquatic suppliers / pet stores, swimming pool equipment suppliers or easily online.

Hope this helps you out bud

You just really need to be able to test it, raise it and lower it. keeping a fixed PH of 6.5 may not be desirable depending on how and what you are growing. The ideal PH of your water will depend on what medium you are growing in etc. Also every variety is different, some like a slightly higher or lower PH value but you will need to see what works best yourself where you do to ensure you do not lock-out anything vital to your plant. Also, remember to test your ph of your water after adding the nutes as they can affect it. For what works with particular auto strains, you are in the right place and I would have a look about or a shout on here. There are probably no commercially available auto strains that have evaded the growers on here.

All the best with everything fella and keep asking. Remember I'm quite new to growing so keep shouting and anything I'm not confident answering will be answered by somebody else?

Peace bro

i just purchased pH meter off of http://www.eseasongear.com/ . After researching ALL, I mean all my options, I went with the Milwaukee brand. Much more used amongst techs who work for city water treatment facilities. Hannah I heard of some inconsistancies, and HM seems too new for feedback although seems promising with a pH tolerance of +/- 0.02.

Few important notes:

- pH meter with 2-point calibration is better than 1 point. So you need 4.0 buffer solution and 7.0 buffer solution.

- Auto-calibration makes life easier but manual is okay if one has patience!

- DO NOT store the electrode in DI or RODI water, it will errode the electrode sensor. Many people do not know this and complain about erratic readings on their pH meter or that they have to calibrate often. This is one HUGE reason why!! You want your pH meter to last, take proper care of it. It must either in storage solution OR tap water. Storage solution is ideal. The reason why tap water is okay is because it has solutes in it so electrode is easily buffered into an equilibrium.

-I also have a cleaning solution and manual states to clean weekly but I plan to clean it once every 1-2 months. Cleaning often may wear out the sensor. If one is properly storing the pH pen without contaminating the storage solution, salts will not accumulate in the solution to have to clean the electrode sensor often.

pH meter = A growers best friend!!
