i just purchased pH meter off of
http://www.eseasongear.com/ . After researching ALL, I mean all my options, I went with the Milwaukee brand. Much more used amongst techs who work for city water treatment facilities. Hannah I heard of some inconsistancies, and HM seems too new for feedback although seems promising with a pH tolerance of +/- 0.02.
Few important notes:
- pH meter with 2-point calibration is better than 1 point. So you need 4.0 buffer solution and 7.0 buffer solution.
- Auto-calibration makes life easier but manual is okay if one has patience!
- DO NOT store the electrode in DI or RODI water, it will errode the electrode sensor. Many people do not know this and complain about erratic readings on their pH meter or that they have to calibrate often. This is one HUGE reason why!! You want your pH meter to last, take proper care of it. It must either in storage solution OR tap water. Storage solution is ideal. The reason why tap water is okay is because it has solutes in it so electrode is easily buffered into an equilibrium.
-I also have a cleaning solution and manual states to clean weekly but I plan to clean it once every 1-2 months. Cleaning often may wear out the sensor. If one is properly storing the pH pen without contaminating the storage solution, salts will not accumulate in the solution to have to clean the electrode sensor often.
pH meter = A growers best friend!!
