So I used to grow (in soil) maybe 15 years or so ago in my late teens/early 20's. Been a while since then. While it's not riding a bike, I still remember the basics and what to look out for, etc. I'm trying to get back into it, moreso just as a hobby and have fun relearning as well as learning new things.

With that said, I'm trying to go (one of) the "easiest" way possible as far as hydro goes, so I decided on hempy buckets. I get the idea behind it, how it works, etc. The one issue I've ran into is hydro nutes. When reading through posts of others running their various hydro setups, I just am not fully grasping what is needed and what isn't. I do want to KISS, but there are so many intangibles with various additives and what not that I think I'm psyching myself out. I bought some AN products a year or so ago, PH Perfect Bloom 1-3-4, PH Perfect Micro 2-0-0, as well as PH Perfect Grow 1-3-4. I bought them for an outdoor grow that went to shit fast, so never actually used them.

My setup is a 4x4 tent, Mars Hydro Ts-3000 light, and I'm thinking of four 5 gallon buckets for the hempy setup running in Mother Earth #3 perlite. I've got seeds from Mephisto, their Skywalker, and today bought 3BOG and Creme de la Chem.

I guess my question is, are those nutes proper for what I want to do? I know to use a 1/4 nutes and work up to half strength, keep it water for the first 2ish weeks. What I'm not sure of is the ratio of nutes to use/which to use. Also, if I need/should add any additives to the mix.

I know ya'll get these kinds of questions daily, I've been a lurker for years on this site so I've read a lot of them, and all the helpful knowledge here is great. It's just this nutrient issue that has me stumped. Sorry for the wall of text btw lol.

@IDontPracticeSanteria :welcome:Welcome to AFN:welcome:Hempy buckets is a form of hydro. There may be a reason not many growers use it but if there is I cannot remember why?

The first thing you want to do is shake your bottles and make sure they don't rattle. If they do throw them away and get fresh.

You will need to feed from day one in this style. I would include Botinicare HydroGuard for sure.

You should have at a minimum a PH pen and an EC meter.

Follow AN nutrient schedule for drain to waste.

Here is a refresher on nutrients.

Have fun!

I've been growing a few years now, definitely NOT an expert. But, in my experience with hempy buckets, it's freaking amazing when you dial in the ph (5.5/5.6 was my max range) and EC.

I use Jacks 20-20-20 for veg, and Jacks 10-30-20 for bloom. If you're interested in seeing progress and grows with it, I'm over on Overgrow.com.

One thing I've learned about EC and being very exact, it's a pita (at the beginning I was down to the .ec ...Holy cow, nope) and if you use Jacks, you can just use 1/4 tsp per watering without frying the thing. If it starts to burn the tip, you're going to notice quickly, because hempys are passive hydro. Near end of flower I was feeding around 1/2 tsp, but that's really strain dependent.

I did several hempy buckets recently, photoperiod fems. They were BEAST MODE. I was absolutely blown away with the growth, quite honestly to the point that , currently I'm growing a bunch of autos (in soil) , and don't get me wrong, I'm Loving it, but noticing that when running the hempy vs. soil, the soil is substantially slower, but sometimes that's the point. At one point I had I 16 buckets going, was insanity.

Now the plan is to toss the autos that I just put in some root riots directly into hempy buckets, top water till that baby hits the reservoir, then sit back and watch the show.

I am thinking about using the Advanced nutrients ph perfect 3 part system (as I've already purchased and it seems like it checks all the boxes- specifically that it ph's itself amd it's got the nutes in it). Might try it this first shot with the autos in hempy, quite likely I'll use the method previously to get a gage of how autos in hempys will work.

I expect to see massive returns and growth.

Good luck! ✌
