After hearing that FFOF gets too hot from the majority of users, I was wondering if anyone has any info on happy frog soil, as far as if it gets to hot and also any info on when the best time it would be to use the FF trio of nutes. Any help would be much obliged.

I don't know about Happy Frog by itself, but many people use a mix of the two somewhere between 30-50 Happy Frog to FFOF.

In my last grow I mixed 70% FFOF and 30% Light Warrior, I saw no burn and didn't use any fertilizer for the first month.

In my next grow I'm testing a 60/40 FFOF/LW combination and adding some dolomite lime.

Soil appears to be quite forgiving. Don't get too hung up and go with what feels right, all of the better products were designed with the cannabis grower in mind.

Happy frog is good. here in Ca its a little cheaper than FOFF. IDK if that mean its has less nutes or whatnot. It does have mycorrhizae though which I think is a must have. I've heard a few people say FFOF has burn there babies but me personally they have never burned once. IDK if they got a bad batch but I was using it for 2 years straight non stop. I switched to happyfrog after reading WVR thread about FFOF vs FFHF. Im using HF for the first time with 50 autos. IDK if its the HF soil or the tiering method but all my plants are tall (not stretched) and have amazing branching. For the first time out of 50 plants I dont have a single one that is a stunted little 10" single cola. And I feed everyday around 300-400ppm of nutes. I never did that with FFOF and I got plants that stunted and had horrible branching. For one all y plants cover my canopy area to where i cant see the bottom when looking from the top.

Here are some pics:
Note: The baby in the 4" jiffy pot was grown in Ocean Forest Soil. I have grown over 1000 auto seedlings to sex with no problem. I think its safe to say FF has fixed their OF problem. I feed nothing but RO water to the seedlings all the way to sex. Sometimes a little Roots Excellurtor or RapidStart by Gh. I currently use FFOF for my babies then transplant into HF when they show sex. Im gonna add perlite next time to my mix for better drainage. FF soil hold water TOO WELL. lol :wiz:

Sorry for the rant just love FoxFarm soil. Firm believer in it.

I see.. I've also heard of using 50-50 happy frog and pro mix and I haven't came across many people using just happy frog.. I'm also on somewhat of a low budget so i'll see how it goes with just the happy frog do what I can to get the best results possible. Thanks for the reply.

Hi PhammyDavis,

There are so many variables it is hard to know what the true effects of soil vs all the other variables, but whatever it is you appear to have it dialed in.

Nice grow - RF

Yea 50/50 mix of OF and HF sounds great. I just wanted to see how it would be with just HF and so far its great!!! HF and maybe 20-30% of perlite would prolly be best. I swear Foxfarm soil holds so much water. Im in a small 1.7al pot and i can water and have it last for 3 days under 20/4. Also have to mention that EVERYONE should be using the teiring method when transplanting. If you dont you're kinda wasting the top pot part of the soil it seems. Thats why I think my plants are getting so big. It like they have a little more room for the roots and I never thought it would make that big of a difference. Right after transplanting I used ro water with some superthrive and rapistart (rooting agent) for first week or so. Then start with 1/2 strength GH grow nutes along with more superthrive. Superthrive is the shit. cheap and works great

Not saying anything bad about happyfrog as i've used both the hf and ffof BUT check the actual soil ph BEFORE you plant. I'm a total newbie to growin but learned the hard and expensive way that the big bag of happyfrog i had actually had a soil ph of 4.5 to 4.0 and was the demise of a few runs of seedlings before i figured out what was going on.I may have just had a bad bag but i believe a few others on here have had a low soil ph problem with it.I got lucky on my 3rd batch of seedlings and found the troubles-i tried to correct it with adding some lime but finally took a big risk and transplanted into ffof and the plants greatly improved. It was a learnin experience and now i check soil ph BEFORE i plant.
