Hey guys, recent ph lockout when I thought everything was in line has brought to my attention the need for a quality PH meter. I was stupidly half assing it with one of those cheapo soil ph meters and my plants told me it's off, way off. Like, having issues with MI5 off and that's a forgiving plant. Anyway, I've been checking out this Hanna Checker 1, seems legit. I was wondering if any of you have used one of these little babies before, thoughts?

Hey Mr. P. I haven't tried that one, but I did just get the Control Wizard Accurate 8 after having similar issues with two cheap $20 meters. I really like the CWA 8. It's a bit more than the Hanna one in your link, but after having wasted $40 ($55 with tax, gas, and bridge tolls) on those other cheapys, I wanted this one to be the last one I buy for quite some time. I checked the reviews before buying and almost all of them were very positive.

Muddy uses that CWA 8 and loves it. I plan on getting one as soon as I can.

I believe the meter KS linked to is for directly checking soil ph. The one Mr P. is asking about is for measuring solutions.
I too have been looking at this meter it's Hanna so it's at least from a quality company. I've read reviews that say it does not find a steady number and is not water proof, but I've never used it. My biggest concern is that even though the resolution is .01, the accuracy is .2. If you are getting a jumpy reading say between 6.0 and 6.1 combined with the accuracy it is really a 5.8-6.2. Might not matter so much in soil but in hydro that's a pretty big gap. That has been my reason for not getting one as it does seem to be the cheapest thing out there. If you get one let us know how it preforms.

hey guys. i have bought the classic digital 4 in 1 soil meter. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-1-pH-Temp...denEquipment_HandTools_SM&hash=item35bbb8b804

when i insert it in the soil about 2-3 inches deep (the sensor goes 1 inch below the surface) i take normal readings.. 6,5-7. but when i'm pushing it deeper ph value falls.... the deeper i put it the lower the ph is... when i have it 20 cm in the pot my ph is 3,5-4.0..... i don;t know what's going on.. the manual says to place the sensor as near the roots as you can..but it doesn't say anything about the depth..... does anyone has any idea???

Those cheap readers really don't work, trust me on that one.

it's not cheap..it has 20 euros. i have heard that before that's why i didn't buy the one with the analog meter that costs 5-6 euros..at european ebay at least, i didn't find any other digital modem.

so you think the ph should stay the same everywhere in the pot? in deep i mean.

I hate to be the one to tell you, but 20 is a cheapo ph meter, and that one falls into that category. I have no idea why it's reading the ph fluctuation in your pot, but I'd lay down pennies to dollars that it's the meter and not the soil.

I disagree,iv used the same soil metre as that for over a year and it's worked fine for me.its not super accurate as it only goes up in 0.5 readouts, but my soil always flashes between 6-6.5 and I know I'm in the correct range :smokebuds:

so man, how do you measure it? in what depth?and is yours doing the same thing? pls tell me.i don't care buy another one. i just want to buy a really acurate meter....
