The crux of what this post is looking for is leaf to calyx ratio!!

Hi all, I have a real interest in what other growers have found with different strains in regards to ease of manicuring at harvest due to leaf to calyx ratio.

I personally do all my manicuring at the initial chop, i find it much more time efficient as the fan and pin leaves are pert and cut very easily compared to dried or wilted ones.

my favourite to trim was my original ak47 clones from mother, dense and soooo quick to trim.

I've heard good things in this respect from kush type varieties, has anyone experince with these in autoflower form?

The crux of what this post is looking for is leaf to calyx ratio!!

In my limited experience (i've only grown a few strains of auto's) :

- Paradise seeds - Vertigo; calyx to leaf ratio is fantastic
- Paradise seeds - pandora; average to good (depending on pheno)
- Joint doctor - easyryder; one pheno is fantastic and one pheno is the worst i've ever tried to trim.
- Sensi seedbank - Shiva Shanti 1; dissapointing to average (on all aspects of grow to smoke)
- A big bud autoflower (i forget the seedbank) this was slow to trim, quite high leaf levels i found. in fact pretty leafy buds all round which made them more prone to bud rot.

What is your easiest ever bud to manicure?? and why??

stylez contributed:

- My Mi5 came out with almost no leaves, besides the fan leaves and a couple bud leaves.
- Afghan Kush was alittle leafy but it was so covered with tricks it wasn't hard to harvest.

:smokebuds:I've looked at thousands of autos and haven't seen the leaf to calyx listed.Another grower will have to give you that.My best buds also came from ak47 huge tight and with few flower leaves.Theres to many other things to worry about when growing autos i don't worry about leaf ratio.I find that trimming is kind of fun so a few extra leaves don't bother me.Unless your trimming pounds i wouldn't woory to much about leaf ratio.

i love trimming keeps me busy for a while i like toget my bud perfect as possible :booya:

If autos are grown to full maturity all the primary and secondary fan leaves will be dead and gone by harvest time, leaving only the bud leaves. I generally find that it then doesn't take more than a few minutes to manicure most plants.

Trimming is the best part of all your hard work and dedication. One love

i think it must sound like i hate trimming, i certainly don't, it's great fun turning those branches into nuggets ready for the last mile before a fresh smoke. But i have in the past had some dodgy genetics that led to far too leafy buds, almost leaving me to create bud shapes from mostly just densly packed slightly frosted leaves. not sucha pleasant experience as trimming up a really tasty dense bud i'm sure you'll agree.

Thanks Mi5. thats the kind of feedback i'm looking for in this post :)

Thanks for the feedback Muddy :) , i have definately found that there is more 'Autumning' on the auto's than some regular girls. I havent ever tended to wait for a full scale wilt and drop off tho. You'd obviously recomend waiting till that point in future??

Even after that tho the buds will have pin leaves in the bud tho right, even if yellow or browning, i'm sure no one will hold it against me if i prefer calyxs and frosty "leave-on-able" pin leaves to leaves that need trimming tho ey? ;)

What has been your experience with various strains? have you found any that are particularly heavy towards calyx or leafy buds?
