Hey all!
Im here with some questions and could use some help from the pros around here considering this is my first auto grow (have only done a few photos so by no means "seasoned") I need help fast because ive been bullshitting setting up my room and my seeds all arrived yesterday from herbies! lol very fast and discreet delivery btw. But I will be establishing a grow journal here as soon as I can get my ducks in a row! My 2 brothers also ordered seeds with me and are both in the process of finishing their rooms as well (will be completed by the weekend). So I have some questions from them as well since one isnt big on posting online and the other is planning on having a journal as well but is lazy so who really knows .Germinating today so kinda forcing myself to get this all done.
My Setup:
Closet: 5' x 1' 11" x 8' (shelf built in closet to increase grow space so each space is same measurements but 4' tall)
4" active air inline fan (installed in attic to maximize space)
4" duct
Shelf 1:
Sunblaze 8 bulb 4' t5 (little over 400 watt)
havent bought them yet but thinking of adding 1 or 2 cfls if I can squeeze them in
Seeds: (3) Auto Pounder (3) 2 Fast 2 Vast (1) THC Bomb auto (1) Candy Kush
Shelf 2:
undecided lighting. would like to use the mars400 i keep seeing might be the best bang for my buck but would like to hear opinions from some members in correlation with my yield goals. (I will mention below)
Seeds: undecided as well. I need to make another order in the next few days for my brother anyway (the seeds I was gonna use for this shelf im going to let him use to get his going this week) and could use some advice as to some other high yielding strains even though I think everyone will tell me what im planning on ordering. think different auto, buddah magnum auto, cali haze. Also planning on ordering for my outdoor grow which is coming up so will probably get 5 of each to try after the final freeze but any others im missing?
foxfarm ocean mix organic soil (wanted happy frog but hoping this will be fine?)
enough perlite to make mix 20%
foxfarm big bloom
(8) 3 gallon pots
Brother 1 setup:
Room 6' x 20'
lighting still undecided but his budget is tight. his best bet is probably gonna be a used 1000 watt hps setup from the local store. He has a good amount of space to utilize and wont have a problem ventilating because, like my setup, has access to central heating and air.

Brother 2 setup:
False wall in barn: 6' x 12' x 8'
has (1) 1000 watt hps and an inline that goes with it. (not sure of size. gotta measure it but got passed down for free so no complaints lol)
Seeds: (2) Auto Pounder, (2) 2 Fast 2 Vast, (1) THC Bomb Auto
Now I know there are some obvious things I havent mentioned that we still need to get (timers, temp. controllers, etc) but we have a list we plan on getting everything this weekend and hopefully adding to it. First off we are all planning on germinating in soil as opposed to the paper towel (even though I always use that method). Is the soil I have an acceptable mix or should it be lighter?? Any suggestions as to what yall might add to make it better?
Which leads me to my next subject. Yield. This is our number one goal. In my closet I would like to achieve close to a lb per shelf. This might sound crazy because I really havent seen too many journals with yields like this in that amount of space but thats why I said I would "like" to achieve that but I believe it can be done (someone tell me im crazy if I am lol). That being said im trying a SCROG technique that I cant really find anywhere else..at least not the way im visioning it. About 2"-4" above my pots I am hanging a chicken wire screen that my plants can grow through while they are very young. That way when its time to LST like I planned on doing it can be done with ease and hopefully should be able to "customize" my canopy so to speak. I would like the chicken wire around the back 3 walls so i can tie on the sides too but like I said I cant really find this idea anywhere so kinda playing it by ear. What do you guys think? We are all doing some sort of low stress, yield improving technique but im not too sure if my brothers are trying that.
Now im still not sure of my lighting or seed situation for shelf 2, so I could also use some suggestions for that. I was thinking of the Mars ll 400 with some cfls or maybe 2 Mars ll 400 would be best? Not trying to spend over 4-500 and really with the space I doubt ill have to. I will also be using co2 for this grow as well (just need the tank filled) Any help is appreciated so thanks in advance and sorry such a long post but could really use help with all this and ill have a bad ass journal to share with you guys when I get going!
