Problem: lots of slow growth and weird deficiency, really droopy but only before lights out

Medium/grow method: bio365 coco grobuckets 5 gallon

Feed: and supplements used: grow dots at medium application rate in grobuckets

water source: tap 60ppms adjusted to ph 5.8

Strain/age: popped Jan 1st

light used: 2x hlg 550

Climate: day 75 night 70, 60% humidity

Additional info: I've been growing for 10 years dtw in coco and I've never really had any major deficiency so I'm embarrassed to say I'm not very good at diagnosis. These grow dots are not impressing me. What the heck is going on here. One plant seems to be doing well but all the rest...

The brown spots combined with the yellowing at the top of some plants makes me think immobile nutrient deficiency, like iron or calcium. But the spots make me think magnesium. Also the one is yellowing all the way through which makes me think that its got almost no nitrogen available to it at all. This could be a mix of toxicity and deficiency or lockouts. My guess is thats theres some kind of lock out going on but Im no expert. Im gonna tag someone in on this one that could help @Mañ'O'Green. Im unfamiliar with coco and biotabs

Hello i had plenty of def with using grow dots ended up having to feed bottle nutes half way through the grow turned out good in the end but wont be using the dots again

Growdots and coco? Are feeding to runoff every time? Grow dots and coco don’t sound like a good combo to me but lots of ways to skin cat:shrug::pop:

@TheMerryDankster :welcome:Welcome to AFN:welcome: I have never used grow dots so I do not know how fast they can release nutrients in Coco.

As long as you are certain your RH has not ranged out of >40% <70% then it would be something else. In hydro/coco RH is critical.

The first plant looks like it has a root problem. Get your nose down as close to the bottom of the pot and lift the bottom up a bit and smell it. If it is sour smelling you probably have an anaerobic microbe growth. If so use HydroGuard to remedy the problem. I cannot tell from the pictures but you should have an air gap under the pot to prevent this from happening. Too wet a pot can cause it also? Not usually a problem in Coco. If the pot smells sweet/earthy then we need to look elsewhere.

The other plants are showing Phosphorous and Potassium shortages or a lock-out?

I don't really see any signs of too much nitrogen so I am going to guess maybe too much Cal-Mag but where is it coming from?

The other possibility is just plain hungry and needs a P-K boost. This is what I think is the overall problem. I do not know how too add nutrients with Grow Dots to coco.

You need to add a balanced transition week nutrient to your pots somehow? See what I mean by balanced nutrients here:

Looking on their site they have a calculator for estimating how much you'll need. First thing to fill in is type of soil...heavily fortified, fortified, and inert.....that right there has me thinking it's for soil based grows only, in addition to not finding any mention of coco at all on the page....I would assume so.

I know when I checked earlier cause I wondered the same thing.. I just looked at a bag on amazon and the bags says coco as a media but have only heard folks using in soil:shrug:

I personally have not used them I believe @Dankerson has run them for awhile and some other folks here :d5::vibe:

I was going off this page.

I know the Gnome Scat is working great for mine.

Firstly, this was my first post as a new member and I stoked to see so many responses. Thanks to everyone who responded. Yea, these dots got me stumped. I went with coco because that’s what scotty real specifically told me to use and I love me some good coco, especially canna coco. I’m generally speaking a dtw coco grower although I’ve run organic soil and deep water culture. I moved recently and lost my basement drain which made getting rid of waste water easy but I’ve doubled my grow area added an additional hlg-550 and gained more control with day night temps and humidity. I was feeling kinda guilty about the amount of wastewater I generate so I decided to give some grow dots and gro buckets a try. I think part of what might be going on is the distribution of the Dots. I mixed up many gallons of coco at a time and I’m thinking they didn’t each receive the same amount of dots Per container. Perhaps mixing a single 5 gallon buckets worth at a time might ensure the proper dosage per bucket. @Mañ'O'Green , these are grobuckets so there’s never any real runoff and I suspect as you do something going on down there. I’m tempted to pull the worst plant up as she’s not looking like she’s turning around but due to the nature of the reservoir having slots for the roots to grow thru I fear I’d really damage the roots. i Can topwater it and force runoff thru the single drain hole but I’m not getting any funky smells. I don’t really know how to add on top of grow dots either so I’ve started to top feed only about half strength canna a and b. I’ve had such great resulots running coco dtw all these years I wonder why I bother changing but I’ve got a peat coco ewc mix using dr.earth organic amendments one in a pot one in a bucket. I’m also new to autos so hey let’s just try changing everything at once haha. im Super excited about some mephisto genetics I just popped and they are going in strait coco for sure. I really appreciate everyone’s comments and I keep y’all updated. Stay faded.
