Hello everybody!

I have for many years thought about growing my own. Many of the forums and sites on the web dedicated to cultivation have put me off ... bravado, flaming, and general immaturity ... I'm sure you all know the story.

The only attempt* I made was when the Lowryder #1 came out (seems like ages ago now). I saw the seeds in a headshop and thought it was too good to be true! A dwarf, stealth plant which finishes in a couple of months! So I put two on a windowsill (53N lat ;-)) indoors and with only about 3-4 hours direct sunlight every day. Muck rather than soil - plastic beer cups rather than pots. Zero nutrients, fed on tapwater. As you can guess, the yield was a joke. About 3 grams per plant! I just dried, didn't cure ... yet it was worth it. The satisfaction was enough for me! It was clean, tasty and got you (me!) high.

I stumbled upon this site a few months back and was immediately impressed by the yields you dudes are getting. I'm also amazed at how far the Auto strains have come along. Auto diesels, blueberry, pakistani ... amazing!

After reading your grow logs, diy shenanigans, breeding projects etc. I was fascinated. On top of that, everybody's nice to everybody, helpful, courteous and decent.

Now, I haven't much money to spend. This is ONLY for me though, so two or three autos will do me. The maxim of "The more money you spend the more you get back" doesn't really apply here. I've been looking for second hand growing equipment - there seems to be a bit about in my locality (I live in southern Europe, not the same place I tried LR#1!!). Grow tents, unused CFLs (the bigger ones) and a few kits (minus tent) etc. Second hand grow gear appears easy enough to get as I think a few people quickly upgrade or change their mind at the last minute. Even 2nd hand, it's not too much cheaper than the "Armario Cultivo Completo" which are sold in grow shops near me.

I want to start with CFL, tent, soil (organic!), hand watering, seems to be bat guano available locally, and either carbon filter or that gel stuff (which I've seen working well on a friend's stinky photo grow). The room has massive french windows, so odor probably won't be a huge issue.

Would anybody care to recommend some quick autostrains for a noobie? Not incredibly stinky ones please!

A couple of total noob q - Would a Red spectrum flowering CFL be suitable for the entire Auto grow? Just thought as veg period is essentially nonexistent. I thought I saw a couple of posters suggesting it works (the guy who makes the cool pots out of mesh I think said it). I'd gladly add the soft blue spectrum lights from the hardware store, but don't know the first thing about wiring. If I find something suitable though I'll go for it. Will still check online anyway.

Anyway, I'll be trying some balcony planting early next year. Not ideal, but based on suncalc.net (love that website, found it last night) it'd be worth a try.

P.S. Private cultivation for personal use in this country is legal. I still want stealth as this is a small city where I work and am supposed to be 'respectable'.

:peace:

Nice one JM! I'll have a look at those 'hefty' ones in a minute. Had a look already at the store, nice beans! I'll try to procure my first beans locally as Spanish postal service is a joke. Luckily there are some breeders of autos here.

If I can reliably receive post, I'll definitely get from the site ( the knowledge and passion for autos here are second to none )

welcome to the site my friend...i do a cabinet grow with 8-40 watt CFL's all red 24/0 and get nice tight buds so for me the answer is yes to red... enjoy your new site and friends.

TOKE OUT

Welcome skylarking! I (mistakenly) started with all red spectrum for my EasyRyder (very first) grow. Although she did take off and grow like crazy through her veg stage, I ask myself constantly whether she might have done even better with more blue. Lots of experienced auto growers recommend blue from start to finish. For my next project I'm planning on having an equal mix of both.

I can confirm that the Easy Ryder is a very easy plant for newbies. I did her wrong a few times in the early days and she is so forgiving. She could have been bigger and wider, but I am overjoyed with what I'm going to be harvesting in about two weeks. (I say that even though I desperately want some purple jems. I still have 4 Easy Ryder beans though, and want to get good at what I'm doing first.)

Good luck in your endeavors!!

Greetings Skylarking,

Would you be interrested if i told you that you can make the very same harvest last about twice as long?

:wiz:

My location ain't that far up North but it's not California over here neither...

Anyway. Good luck!

:peace:

Welcome dude, glad to see another person aiming to beat that couple gram yield. Ill save you the bad joke I like to give the noobs about microwaving seeds lol

Cheers guys, still haven't started anything yet. I might wait until after Xmas as I'll be away from my apartment for a bit and am also quite short of cash (that's an understatement by the way). I will try a few balcony plants anyway to see how they take off, and I'll post my results. My proximity to Morocco means really nice cheap 'chocolate' is readily available. When I grow, it'll be autos all the way for sure!

Hi JM - yeah, welcome to poor-man's club!

In Spain "chocolate" pronounced 'choco-latte' refers to hashish. Not a fan of eating my medicine, more of a smoker ;-). Still, I'm always open to ways of using my trimmings etc. Waste not, want not etc.
