New Grower Germ test for AFN - Black Dragon

I was hoping to start this test yesterday along with the new moon but I was waiting for some calibration liquid to come in today.

I am doing a quick post now while I wait for some of the water to be heated. The river water is very cold, and I will get it up to about 26c before lowering the PH.

So in about two hours I will start a germ test on 30 seeds. I figured I would try three traditional ways (10 each) of germinating.

1.) 12 hour soak in water then direct to wet soil (1L party cup).
2.) Direct to soil. (1L party cup). I will plant the seed then water.
3.) Plastic bag with moist paper towel.

If the seeds breaks in 3 days... juice!

If anyone has and suggestions or comments before I start, speak now or forever hold your peace.

i water the soil before i drop seeds cause i had seeds get pushed deeper and others float up but pre water and they will stay where you put them well till they start reaching for the sky that is

sorry, should have been more clear about number two...

I will water the medium first then plant the seed. if the top of the medium dries up a bit by day two or so, I will use a spoon to keep the top moist. your absolutly correct sir!

quick question if anyone is on... just finished, pics are in the process of uploading. but... I threw the 10 seeded 1L cups in the grow room, lights are on a 20/4 schedule as of 10 min ago. I will just finish the last 10 days of the photos I have in there on 20/4 (they were on a 12/12 I am on my second flush, thrid flush will be in 2 days or so). should I keep the cups out of the light for a bit or was it OK to throw them in there..... (the bag of seeds with paper towel, and the cup that has the ten seeds soaking are in a box in the grow room, no light but good heat.

So. the babys are set so lets get some life going!

seeds in water are still floating. dense little fuckers. changing plan from 12 hour soak to 18. hopefully they will have dropped a bit and I can plant them. prepped the pot I will plant them in. has been watered with river water at PH 7.6 and run-off was 5.9

I should have done that with the 10 1L cups from last night that I planted. I ph´d the river water to 6.5 but the run off was 5.4. no big deal but I would have liked them to have a medium of 6.5. oh well. I am killing almost all of them anyways. this is just for a germ test.

gave a quick little spray to the 10 planted 1L cups this morning as the surface dried out slightly. will check back in 6 hours.

I went to check the seeds I placed in water to soak 15 hours ago and none were floating . 7/10 cracked . I planted them and we will wait to see what pops! I will wait until 11 tonight (24 hours) to open the plastic bag of 10 to see how they are doing. I´ll plant whats cracked and leave what has not.

10/10 germination with plastic bag method.

I will plant them this afternoon and see if they pop out of the medium in a few days...

Of the 10 that were soaked for 15 hours, 7 were cracked at time of planting but as of my last visit to the grow room all 10 have broke through the medium surface.

Ten of ten cracked in the plastic bag and were planted 9 hours ago and 1 has already broken through the medium. (i screwed this up a bit, I should have planted them 12 hours earlier but I had a huge fight with the old lady and slept at a friends house). Germ rate is 100% with plastic bag, and pre-soak method.

Of the ten I planted straight to wet soil, 5 have broken through the surface. This usually always takes about 24 hours longer. So well see how they are by tomorrow and that should wrap up the germ test.
