w/ autos things work a little different, they show sex and are creating pistols but they're not in full bloom. once a auto has reached its vertical limit it really starts to bud and that is concidered flowering.

My point was vertical limit/height has little to do with with flowering if it did it the auto would not flower if you kept it short or did i get the wrong end of the stick lol.
Preflowers form normally from either 7-10 days into flower or prolonged veg but IMO it would be fair guess to say it has started flowering

Obviously if you tie it down it would be horizontal not vertical growth but Smash's point is the same. When the plant stops devoting energy to making the stalk and branches taller (or longer if tied down ;)) and devotes that energy to the flowers, it's in full flower. Just from watching all the different varieties here on AFN, I don't think you can really put a timetable on it like 7-10 days. Lots of variety depending on the strain and conditions. But I agree that it doesn't matter anyway except if you're trying to determine when to hit it with the flowering nutes.

Even though flowering will start at 3-4 weeks, vertical growth, or horizontal growth if LSTed, will continue through about week 6. At that point the vertical growth stops and the buds will start to fill out. If you watch your plants you will see that the flowers really don't grow much from week 3 through week 6. That's why it's important to not switch your nutes to flowering until around week 6.

I think its more a time frame/maturity issue triggered by a flowering hormone increase/decrease but i do agree in what your saying AB

in a photo strain it would still stretch the first 7-10 days but a breeder would class that as the flowering cycle when they list 8 weeks
