I'm converting a steel rack that I used to use for aquariums into a grow area.
Once enclosed with mylar, I should have a space about 6ft(L)x28in(D)x6ft(T), my goal for this area is to produce 4-5oz a month.

I have a black thumb, I tend to kill any flora I touch.

My final price tag looks like $300 worth of nutrients, soil, fans, mylar, etc
And another $300 worth of LED fixtures.
Before I order I wanted to share some of the things I intend to get to see if anything needs to be changed or removed.

Soil;
1/2 Mother Earth Coco plus Perlite mix
1/2 Mother Earth Coco bale + extra perlite

Nutrients/Control;
Botanicare Cal-Mag plus
General Hydroponics Flora grow, bloom and Micro combo
General Hydroponics pH control kit
Organic Laboratories Organocide 3-1

Extras;
Seed starter tray
Vivosun mylar film
Acurite Thermometer/Hygrometer
pH Meter
8in fan
2x Large jars

Lighting;
2x Mars Hydro sp 150
2x Par38 36w red spectrum grow light
2x Par38 22w 3000k Flood LED (par38's for gaps)

It doesn't seem like alot, but the $600 price tag does.

The par38's I already own, they have a good spectrum (3000k) and have been growning macro algae for afew years, I plan to use them inbetween the main fixtures, to fill in any gaps. Their spread is good and should be fairly uniform if hung high enough.

I'm debating on if I need a humidifier, I have a 120g fish tank, and generally have to run a DE-humidifier to keep my house from sitting around 70-80% humidity.
I also need to choose some kind of air purifier to leave in the room to deal with smell.

So, do I really need all this stuff? or is there anything that I am missing?

hi and :welcome: @Grendel :pass:no you dont need half the stuff,but youl end up wanting twice as much.
why not just use a corner to get 1 plant going to begin with,at harvest re evaluate ?
a ph pen aint worth much without 4/7 ph test,maybe a storage and cleaning solution to :frowny: but some peeps are lucky and the garden stays in ph range without having to adjust feeds :coffee:

been lurking for some time or first day here ? :CSR: im archie gemmill :footy:your butlins blue coat hi de high site rep :paleo:a few things well worth a read.

If I could lay out the basic of the basics it would go like

Mylar for your shelf
300cfm exhaust
Carbon filter
Humidifier and or dehumidifier
420 watts of full spectrum led for your space
A 18" box fan
Timer for lights
Temperature and humidity controller from inkbird is optional but incredibly helpful
EC or ppm meter
PH pen
Mega Crop 1 part dry nutrient
PH up and down
Beneficial enzymes and microbes from products like Recharge
Fabric pots or raddicle bags
Seeds

You have the space to grow 2+lbs if done right. That's my down and dirty list of necesitities. Everything can be found on Amazon and lights can be quantum boards. The initial startup is expensive but it gets better as you upgrade and maybe add rooms or spaces and etc. But roughly 600-1000 for a strong start and with enough research you could pull 2lbs in that space

I use the Honeywell AirGenius 5 for my grow room. Works well, but you have to stay on top of it with cleaning. Though I use it mostly for harvest, I also use it when the room starts to get a little stale smelling etc.

Really? How many plants should I try to run at one time with this space?
And what size pots should I get?
Also do I need to use special nutrients for autoflowering?

I already ordered afew seeds from Seedsman. I intend to try autoflowering for my first batch, and if yeild/potency are good, I plan to stay autoflowering.
I stuck with alot of cheap seeds, since its my first run. The autos I ordered are, Northern Lights, Pineapple Glue, Gelat OG, Zittles, Gorilla Blue and Northern Cheese Haze.
Any personal suggestions?

Yeah I guess a $50 purifier isn't going to cut it... I don't plan to do any ducting, or exhaust fans.
But I will have to have something in the room to limit smells.

Two ViaSpecrta V450's or two Mars Hydro SP 150s...
I can't decide.

Their SP line seems nice, a step up from previous. You have everything covered but like you mentioned later the smell. I am a bit skeptical of 2lb out of basically a 6×2 tent? I'd not get your hopes up for that yield. Just run your first grow and see where you stand then . beware it's addictive! I'm on my first grow in years and the fire is back. Remember have fun, and relax, good advice I was given.
