My first grow and have had some problems. Surprised yet? Me neither. Ok the set up is 2 small fans in an open closet with a 10" fan blowing in cool air at the bottom. They are growing under a 150w HPS.

The larger plant is an Auto Seeds Auto #1 on day 17. She looks super healthy and smells wondrous! No problems with her so far. Now the other 2....

I lost my Nirvana seeds NL auto and drove myself crazy looking for it. It somehow ended up falling into the Auto #1 pot... yep. So they were planted the same night and you can clearly see the size difference. Is the NL a waste of effort now?

The third seed is a Samsara Supersonic Cristal Storm Automatic. She is on day 10 and seemed to do absolutely nothing up until this morning. I didn't panic when she stayed so small, just treated her normally and was rewarded with visible growth since this morning. So I assume this is normal while they root or is she stunted?

Thanks for stoppin by and will update again fairly soon. Payday means a 400w HPS soon so I am starting an El Alquimista tonight.

Semper fi,

The first 5 are #1/NL and the last 2 are the SSC

Hey man a 400w hps will run much hotter then your 150w just so you know. I would definitely keep the NL around I grew one and its some of my favourite smoke :bong:

Welcome to AFN. Moving your thread over to the New Growers forum where we can better help you.

Looks like you're off to a good start. I wouldn't be too concerned about the seedling. When started in large pots they often look like they aren't doing much the first week but they are establishing their root system. They should start to take off soon.

I don't see any mention of a carbon filter in your description. If you don't have one I would strongly suggest you get one within the next few weeks. Once the plants get 4-5 weeks old they will start to put out a strong odor, one that could alert neighbors or anyone coming to visit to what you are doing.

Also, what kind of soil and nutrients are you using?

Thanks for the help!

Yes I am prepared to move the whole grow into a more suitable environment here within a week. There the temp will be more controllable as well as no neighbors. Through this grow I am using miracle grow potted plant soil mix with 50% coconut fiber. I know this creates the guessing game when it comes to nutes but I am not too worried about it here in the first grow.

I am interested in hearing some tried and true combinations. I have a specialty indoor garden shop near me that sells most of the seemingly favorite brands.

Thanks for the interest!

Yes, any MG products should be avoided. If you can get Pro Mix or Sunshine #4 those would be my recommendations. Both are considered soil less as they are basically sphagnum peat moss, perlite, dolomite lime and some starter nutrients. They can be used as is or as a base for mixing your own by adding amendments like worm castings, guano or manure.

Thanks! Again yeah MG are only going to be these two. Already have everything I will need to run my Alquimista and future grows in Fox Farms supplies.

I will be posting more pics at the beginning of next week. The NL has shown improved growth and the SSC has taken off with a great deal of vegetative growth!

I am happy it is working out...

Hey hey hey! Sorry for the Delay lay lay! Auto #1 is on day 24 today. But the day after my last post I ran into a problem. Gnats. They swarmed in on the Auto #1 like it was their saving grace! In one night I went from healthy green to missing the top half of two fingers on the bigger fan leaves. But I did not panic, no, I sprayed raid outside on some sterilized lava rock (because I was medicated and never thought that the Raid would probably be sterilizer enough lol) and let them dry for 3 hours. Then I placed the rocks on the outer rim of each planter and kept them there except when I watered. This completely wiped them out within an hour!

So you have seen the photos below and asking why does this seem to be going so well, but look like crap-o! I am not very cool with what raid does. I served in the Marines and I am done with death. Downer. I would much much rather deter insects than end them. So I went out and bought a soybean based plant safe spray by Ortho. I threw out the lava rocks and gave my plants a quick spray. Came back an hour later and the SSC was dead and the Auto #1 was droopy and crying! I quickly brewed up some room temp water with a small amount of soap and softly scrubbed where it was salvageable. After that it was a pure water leaf rinse and a quick trimming of the dying leaves and stems. After a few days of recovery you can see that she is doing well and smells all happy now.

The tiny Northern lights has shown its first signs of growth again and could have cared less about the spray. One strong plant if only I had known it had fallen in there!

The new sprout you see is a photoperiod El Alquimista from Samsara Seeds day 2. 70/30 Northern lights/Ak47. I will be starting a grow journal for her in the non auto section soon.

Thanks for stopping by!

If you get fungus gnats again, just hang a piece of fly paper. That will take care of them PDQ. You don't want to be spraying raid on something you're going to be smoking, besides the damage it did to the plants.

Seeing a bit of yellowing on your leaf tips. Could be from over feeding. Are you feeding them anything yet and if so, at what strength?

Are you planning on running that photo plant in with the autos? If so you will need to cut your lights back to 12/12 to get it to flower, which will decrease the yields on your autos.

So far I have only let them live on the nutes from the MG 50% mix. So if it is overfeeding there is nothing I can do :( This is the reason for the FoxFarms set up I am transitioning to now with the Non auto one.
And the non auto will veg in there until she gets too big then I will finish setting up a separate grow area where she will get 12/12. The autos will continue 20/4.
