Thanks all! Very kind.
They do look super trich-covered, and all the main colas feel firm and sticky. Much of the credit has to go to the genetics there, so thank you Dinafem!
FWIW, I've made plenty of errors. Only just got them recovered from a major soil PH issue which I made much worse because I thought they were hungry, you can see the nute burn in the pics, as well as the yellowing from the PH issues. It took a crap load of flushing to fix. I wasn't sure if it was worth fixing in week 9, but it definitely was. The worst affected plant slowed down it's growth while it was yellowing, and I noticed as soon as I fixed the soil PH then the buds started packing on weight again. Probably lost some end yield from that error, but hey - now I know organic soil does
not mean you can ignore PH levels, no matter what the biotabs instructions may say! I imagine a full on, outdoor, no till style organic grow with a constantly living compost is probably fine with big PH swings, but with 3 - 5 gallon pots I don't think it works that way, I think it's too easy to saturate the soil with a feed or additive that can build up and heavily alter PH.
I also had to basically stop all LST much earlier than I wanted to. They took to it really well, but I trained them out so wide that I literally ran out of width in the tent, and had to let some of them just grow upwards. Next time I'll plant 4, not 5, then I can really spread those colas out in flower and get maximum light penetration. I also noticed the plants at the back of the tent grew slightly more vigorously, and those are the ones that I defoliated less (because I'd have to pull all the other plants out to get to them and it was just a pain). I think on my next run I will go hard on the LST and leaf tucking, and defoliate as little as possible. I'd spend all this time cutting a leaf here or there that was covering a bud site, and literally 24 hours later the bud site was 2 inches taller anyway, poking out above the leaf that was previously covering it, so often there was no need to cut it all when I could have just tucked it.
Checking again, most of the ambers are actually on the sugar leaves, and whilst the trichs on the buds are mostly cloudy I'm still seeing a few clear, and basically no amber on the buds themselves, so I'm gonna restrain myself. It's not easy to resist when I'm handing over cash for some average smoke and I've got this garden of goodness in my shed! I know I can chop a branch and quick dry it, but I just can't bring myself to do it after all the hard work I've put in. I want that first proper home grown smoke to be slow dried to perfection.
I will try and resist until Monday at least
Very curious to see how much I actually yield from this 4x4 tent as this is all new to me, so I have no idea how much those big colas are going to shrink down when dry. It's all for personal smoke anyway so it doesn't really matter. I just smoke a lot, so it would be nice to know I can just do a couple of these runs a year and potentially have enough to last the rest of the year.
Got some
Sour Livers from Mephisto and
Green Gelato from RQS for my next round. Looking forward to it already.
Apologies if I've been crowding up this forum with posts about this grow - I'm not in the US or Canada so I have to keep this grow secret. The only person who knows about this is my wife, and there's only so much of me droning on about about defoliation and RH levels that she can put up with, so this forum ends up being where I vent my thoughts and concerns about the process.
