Hey guys! First grow here. Day 3 of sprout for the CDLC & Mango Smile. Both seeds germinated & sprouted in 3 days, planted directly in soil. I’m growing in a 5 x 3 x 6 greenhouse outside. The CDLC sprouted fine, the MS on the other hand sprouted with helmet head, apparently I didn’t plant it deep enough. I put the top of a water bottle on it as a humidity dome, to keep It moist. It seemed to be doing fine throughout the day yesterday. I could see the helmet starting to peel off & cotyledons where showing bright green.
When I went to check on it later last night, ants had eaten some of the cotyledons & the helmet head was completely gone. I’ve read that the proteins from the lining of the seed can attract ants. I kept the door of the greenhouse about halfway open for ventilation (temps rise quick in there). I’m going to get some neem oil & keeping an eye on soil for more potential pest.
I thought about germinating another MS, but it seems to be doing well despite the ant attack. I’m going to give it a few days & let nature do it’s thing. What do you all think? Any other suggestions? Any outdoor growers ever experience this?
