I have 5 Jack Herer Autoflower seeds arriving this coming Saturday and I've been very busy preparing.
It is my first grow in +30 years and hoping for suggestions.

I must grow outside in my prepared secure site.
Here are a few points:

1) I am in the SE US, and temps will generally be in the mid-upper 90s @ around 50-60 humidity.
2) I plan to put them in the HOT sun.
3) The area has good air flow. Breezy.
4) I will be watering with filtered but untreated well water.
5) The soil is the regional red clay.
The soil absorbs water quickly and turns into mud. It is hard as rock when completely dry and a pic axe is necessary to break it into dust.
6.) I have not purchased my soil or nutrients yet.

It's because of this clay soil that I will be using 3 gallon pots.
Potted plants tend to dry out quickly here in the hot sun so I suspect that I will be watering on a frequent schedule.

I would dig a hole in the ground and fill it with good favorable soil but I am concerned the hole would only be a bowl of water, drowning the plant in the good soil.
I'm considering digging a hole in the ground big enough to drop the pot in, yet able to see that no water pools in the bottom - To help keep the pots out of the sun and therefore cooler.
The region is prone to late afternoon downpours.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. I'm really excited to get busy with this.
