So this is my very first grow and I'm worried I'm already off to a rocky start. I did tons of research but seemed to have crossed my wires when it comes to auto vs. photo methods. I read several posts here with growers saying that they had no issues with transplanting so I went ahead and got a seedling going in a small plastic pot. But now I've been coming across lots of posts saying that transplanting is bad and may stunt growth!

Here's my four day seedling under Mars 600 (280w) led. I've got another seed germinating. I've got a stealth situation going and don't want to go through the effort for just a few grams of stunted growth after transplanting. Should I go ahead and transplant or toss and order more seeds?:sadcry::wall:

I came across the same info while waiting for my goodies to arrive. To be on the safe side I germinated an put them directly into a 4gal pot. :eyebrows: I wouldn't toss them, I would transplant them, with the gentlest of care. I think you will be okay. Don't give up, have faith in your ladies. I' am sure they will be fine. If they do stunt I wouldn't chuck it as a loss just a lesson. :shrug:Enjoy learning from them. You could do the same exact thing again it could have a total different outcome. Every round can be different. Stay positive. Happy growing, I look forward to seeing how things come out!:pop:

Thanks hbf, my biggest worry is that kind soil is so expensive! I will focus on the positive...

I always transplant. The trick is timing. You don't want to let the plant get root bound and you don't want the roots to be under developed because the soil can break apart and damage the roots. My plants hit 2 to 3 ounces a plant. The starting pot determines when to transplant. A 1/2 to 1 gallon pot is a good starting pot and waiting tell at least week 3 to transplant is how I would do things. Here is a pic of my last grow. I transplanted early and the soil broke apart but plant turned out fine. Don't worry too much about doing things perfect. Some people do have hard times transplanting and some people never have issues. There is no black and white in growing. Don't worry about being perfect at first because the way you do things now are probably not how you will be doing things a few years from now as your style will evolve over time. I grow way different than when I started.
